I agree, keep that 4th line together. Even though expensive as FUH, it's likely one of the best if not best 4th lines in the league, versatility wise.
As for seeing PP time or getting promoted to play 2nd or 3rd C, no thanks. He's cooked at this point for anything other than 4th line duties.

I’d just leave him there at this point

Skate, get pucks in deep, put pressure on D, go to the net and play responsible D

Simple - 12 minutes

Ironically the best game I’ve seen Kuraly ever play (Ottawa overtime game he scored winner) and Wagner (last night) Backes was winger on both
It seems like the best he has played as been since he was dropped to 4th line. Maybe it just what he needs for awhile to see if any offence comes back to him. Just keeping it simple.

If we bought him out what would be the negative repercussions on the cap?
He was front loaded so if you wanted that route you'd be better off trading him and retaining half his salary. With his decreased salary and high cap hit he could be appealing to some team.

Acciari is just not good. He’s an AHLer. I like the hitting but 10 goals last season was an anomaly. He has like 2 assists in his last 70+ games. Id replace him quickly with someone in the AHL.
He's Tyler Randall without the fighting.

Insanely unsustainable shooting% that makes people think he's truly better than what he is.

He's been better since getting back into the lineup because he's been physical from the start, but he's a JAG.

He's also slow- Kuraly has crap hands, but at least he can skate. Noel, as much as I've enjoyed his play at times and wanted him to succeed, looks like an AHL/NHL tweener. A good guy to call up if you have an injury crisis. The Bruins ought to be able to do better in a 12/13th forward. I'm for giving Blidh another look.

Have to keep it on topic though: Backes skated the best I've seen from him in a long time in the Detroit game and looked a little more physically engaged. I don't like him on the PP at all, but if he can continues to get his game back in increments coming off the concussion, he'll be a solid 3/4th liner for us.

Totally agree with the bolded. Easily his best game of the year.

While I don't like him on the PP either, I think he can be an effective Recchi-type player for them byt parking himself in the front and collecting rebounds.

Great guy, great teammate by all accounts. I don’t see him playing the Recchi role as he doesn’t have the hands in tight like Recchi did... not sure where this leaves things aside protected minutes and praying the next expansion draft will have another exceptional buyout window or Backes takes a retirement check.

This signing was a carbon copy of the Scatchard signing way back. GM fell in love with a player on another team and by the time he had a chance to sign him as a FA his legs were gone and the game had passed him by...

Unfortunate...

I still think by season's end he'll be in the conversation for worst contracts of all time. He's certainly live for it.

That said with our FO% in the shitter right now minus Bergy, his FO% of 53% and change is welcome. Kind of shocked to see how little he's hitting, statistically.

I endorsed the signing and why hockey is my third best sport - and that’s no joke, much better in baseball and football; baseball is king

Glad to be part of a brilliant fan base
I’m not saying people that liked the signing are dumb, I’m saying it’s not all hindsight when someone says Beleskey’s contract sucked.

Actually I remember being surprised that he didn’t get more $$ when he signed
I don’t want to derail this thread but signing a guy that had a career year with 20ish goals and barely any assists that played with Getzlaf to 5 years is just bad, he didn’t have a proven track record. The only way I could see signing him for more money would be on a one or two year deal.

Backes is completely different because even though he was getting older he was proven.

1 point and gets rewarded with PP minutes. Mind boggling tbh.

The guy is vastly overpaid and Cassidy knows that. They have to desperately try anything to make this lame investment look better....not working

I agree it was a risk given what he had done up until then, not to get off the subject at all but I do remember thinking Beleskey was going to get a lot more than what he actually signed for

Most teams, maybe all, have questionable contracts. Seabrook? Parise? Dustin Brown? Yikes.

. Backes is up there with the bad ones at this point, his PPG stats tumbling, not able to be as physically effective due to injury/concussions. Yet you can see the logic behind the signing. I didn’t particularly like it at the time, but I understood what they were after. Gotta manage it now, all Sweeney can do.
