I always assumed that he became the USA coach by default. USA Hockey never seems to want to use the same coach 2 Olympics in a row and always wants to hired an American to coach. It was basically either Torts or Blysma. Torts' last year with NYR probably took any serious consideration he had to grab the job and all that was left was Blysma.

Well, he already is franchise leader with two other coaches. I suppose you meant him becoming sole leader.
