The problem with bringing in Boyle is that if we're bringing him in to play on the top pair he's going to struggle and it will not be much different then it was with Salo late in the year. If we play him on the 2nd pair with Carle I don't believe that'll work well either as Carle needs a strong defensive partner. On the 3rd pair he can be alright with Brewer, the problem then becomes what are we doing with Sustr? I believe Sustr can play on the top pair but will have some struggles, if we get someone else to play on the top pair and Boyle then Sustr is in Syracuse which I think is a mistake as he's NHL ready. Barberio will also not be getting many starts unless we go 7D which is likely but Boyle with get PP time not Barberio so we won't be playing to his strengths.
I would bet a lot we have enough injuries no matter who or what we bring in or how many that sustr wil get plenty of time with the big club this year.
The barberio thing and strengths? His strengths is getting puck out of zone and joining the rush and maybe not the over hyped ability on the power play cause as can show his stats on power play do not agree he is that good at it not when sustr and gudas have as good of stats? Especially on their abilities to get pucks to the net on power play where barberio has struggled? This is the same thing detroit fans say about in keeping smith who with wrong partners is a train wreck in the defensive zone. Smith has not been used on the power play to the madness of the fan base
Yet is learning to play decent game with right partners.
I think you just have horribly unrealistic expectations for him at this point. He barely got a chance to string a handful of games together and was still 5-5-10 for the year while shooting 9%. Thats damned decent from a 7th D.
I don't feel he is unrealistic and the difference? I think is he is also a winger like me. We have smith to view. Basically one year older not allowed to do offense has huge high offensive potential we have all heard about that is wings fans and his play is night and day to barberio's who had all this hype.
The 9 % is great and I personally said he has a great goal scoring touch and he gets close but he gets way too many shots blocked and he misses the net way too often for the hype he has meaning barberio. P.S. on that 9 % stat? Blocked shots dont count I believe they throw that out so don't necessarily agree with that so much get me a guy who gets the puck through thats all I want. Barberio has struggled with that. I do not see that changing anytime soon.
Barberio after his break out season was touted as a very good 200 foot both way solid player with high offensive and power play capabilities. He has been a let down on all of that. Is like I said at 24 tons of guys he outplayed that year and even the next year in AHL who passed him in all areas now as a pro.
I hope that changes but wouldnt hold out on that hope myself. I expect him to get better this year but expected him to get more pucks on net last year time will tell good news is he will get his chance cause we are thin. If he has it he should prove it this year.
I was beyond disappointed with his playoffs. I don't even know the word but its like a horror movie saying lol for how bad he was in playoffs and I mean that. I was in shock at his play during the year cause thought he had a fair amount of time to play a better game in playoffs. Aghast? Think that is the word I would use.
Train wreck so to speak. To me with the time he did play to play that badly is very scary. Maybe we overlooked it as fans or I saw something others ignored?
P.S. I could be reading advanced stats incorrectly and have heard there is issues with extra skater but Mark Barberio has failed the eye test for me personally.
I hope hose is right and barberio gets his power play shot and he proves he can handle it yet all I remember is him pinching losing pucks and creating break aways especially against montreal and I wanted him BENCHED.
I am one of wing fans who totally hates brendan smith and his play and playoffs? I wouldnt say want him benched but am happy we got others coming. So is a large difference for one year of age between the two.
