More precision passer than manipulative playmaker, Roulette identifies the next play before even touching the puck. He connects with one-touch feeds in space, along the boards, or in-tight. Even from the backhand, he slices pucks through tiny openings to hit teammates working into space, and frequent hook pass use limits turnovers. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide

Conner Roulette at eliteprospects.com

Roulette is a pure goal scorer and that type of skill is hard to find. This means that he can carve out an NHL career in the top-six for a team if he can round out his game. He will need some time though as he needs improvements in his defensive ability and his skating. A team taking a chance on Roulette is looking at a real boom-or-bust type of prospect. Roulette’s game is reminiscent of Joffrey Lupul. However this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill and ability.

2021 NHL Draft #46: Conner Roulette Scouting Report

Several qualities make Roulette a good forward, especially his attention to detail. He tends to think a situation through before he makes a decision, and this helps him to make accurate passes across the ice. Roulette can also multitask with the puck in many different scenarios. He can combine reading players with moving the pucks to create scoring chances, usually going one-on-one with goaltenders.

“Roulette is an offensive-minded player who shows attentive detail to the basics of the game. He shoulder checks and surveys the ice before arriving to pucks to try and create a blueprint for the play. He still tends to try to attack opponents 1-on-1 instead of opting to find and use help when on the attack.” – Greg Revak, The Hockey IQ Newsletter

Scouting Conner Roulette

“Multiple occurrences show that he’s capable of finding consistency layering in transition, it’s just a matter of gaining that extra step and adding some more deceptiveness to boost that confidence. Roulette plays to the pace that the defence and ultimately himself allows, finding ways to create more angles upon on his entries with varied speeds will see more room to get his great shot off and open up space for his linemates.” – Ashley Glover, Recruit Scouting

On The Cusp: Conner Roulette

His creativity and ability to read play are strong, but he drives plays through his hands and it’s a placeholder ability that will limit him unless he intends on making a career of showing up in soft ice and out-thinking everyone. His offpuck game is quite strong and he blends quite well, trying to hide between checks as much as possible, but feels he must cheat to get space to create. His skating is noticeably a detrimental area of his game, as he lacks explosiveness and stride recovery. He is laboured in his acceleration and poses little threat when attacking with possession on the rush.

Guide - FCHockey

Conner Roulette is a skilled winger with plenty of offensive ability. He is a creative finisher with a good shot and anticipates the play well. He suffers from being less than the sum of his parts, as he struggles to multitask and put his skillset together at top speed. He lacks explosiveness and is separated from the puck too easily at times and requires linemates to do the heavy lifting. He projects as a middle-six winger who can be an asset on the powerplay, but will need to improve his skating and learn to execute at a faster tempo in order to play at the pro level, when time and space is at a premium.

“Results seem to follow him offensively wherever he goes, but I’m blatantly concerned about the projection of Roullette’s game on his current development path. Watching clips from the last calendar year I see a lot of positives in how he is able to create offensive sequences using high-end awareness and by improving the impact of his first touch. His off-puck game is quite strong and he blends quite well and tries to hide between checks as much as possible, but feel he must cheat to get space to create. His skating is still noticeably a detrimental area of his game that hasn’t come a long way and he lacks the explosiveness and stride recovery to make efficient gains in small areas unless he’s identified an area to exploit.” – Justin Froese, FCHockey

Curl-and-drag wristers make him a scoring threat, and he’s not shy about using the threat of a shot to pass. He doesn’t settle for point shots, using give-and-goes and off-puck activation to become an option, then stepping inside and firing. Sets up the defender to maximize his odds of getting the shot through. He hits moving targets through pressure, keeping lanes open with deception. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide

Jack Bar at eliteprospects.com

“Jack is a long and rangy with poise in both ends of the rink. His game has some growing to do but with his size and smooth skating he shows high upside.” – Neutral Zone
“Efficient puck mover from the back end who uses powerful strides to jump into the rush. Still a work in progress, his combination of size and skill give him potential as a two-way, puck moving defenceman at the NHL level.” Nick Richard, Dobber Prospects

https://thehockeywriters.com/2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-jack-bar/

“Jack was a top defenseman in the OMHA League in our area. He was big for his age but had superior mobility and a creativeness that made him really stand out. He also loves the physical side of the game,” Manning said of Bar’s strengths coming into SAC.

“Jack has a strong presence about him, and he offered a person/player our group respected for his talent and work ethic,” Manning said of Bar being named an alternate captain. “Plus, as a leader of our group, it pushed Jack to bring a more holistic view to his role. He has high standards of himself, but as a leader, it’s important to understand how the individual fits within the group. He grew tremendously in this area.

“As a player, Jack’s growth was finding consistently in everything he does,” his coach added. “I think the biggest area of improvement was his ability to manage and read the pulse of the game. Understanding when to take risks and when to make the 100% play. He also began the process to refine his physical and defensive play. He has a bomb of a shot and scored a ton of powerplay goals that year on a PP that was 35%.”

“I feel Jack’s defensive game has really taken a step this year,” Manning concluded. “And I think any time you can get outside of what has been comfortable, there will be growth if one is willing. I think the great part for Jack and this NHL draft process has been his branding as a two-way modern D man, and maybe even more as a defensive guy. He’s been an offensive force in his past, and those things are there bubbling under the surface. Don’t sleep on his offensive game and creativity.”

SAC Coach on Jack Bar: "Don’t sleep on his offensive game"

Bar plays a strong all-around game and has the size and skating ability to play in the NHL. He does almost everything well, but there is a lack of a real stand-out skill here. That may limit his ability at the next level but he should still be able to develop into a top-four defenceman who eats minutes and can compliment a more skilled partner. Bar’s game is reminiscent of Brayden McNabb. However, this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill and ability.

He thinks ahead of the puck and uses his teammates. Hook pass use and passes through pressure to hit teammates. He’s often along the perimeter but turns to the inside to scan for options instead of getting locked into the cycle. Outside leg wrister remains his shot, shooting off the pass, too. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide

Francesco Arcuri at eliteprospects.com

Arcuri has proved to his coaches in Kingston that he is a leader and someone who can be counted on in big moments. Throughout the 2019-20 season, he went a perfect four-for-four in the shootout, the most shootout goals recorded by an OHL rookie since the shootout’s addition in 2005-06. He is quickly becoming a player that can be relied on in big moments, and that is a trait that he can use to his advantage throughout his career.

Arcuri is a natural playmaker who has incredible spatial awareness that allows him to dish the puck to his teammates unnoticed. His high hockey IQ and skating abilities allow him to work his magic in different situations, whether it be battling down low in the boards or shutting down a rush, he can do it all. Given his big season with Linz, he will have a top role with the Kingston Frontenacs come the 2021-222 OHL season. Don’t be surprised to see Arcuri wearing an A on his jersey next year.

https://thehockeywriters.com/francesco-arcuri-2021-nhl-entry-draft-prospect-profile/

“Arcuri had a decent showing in this game. He showed some speed bursts and was quick to the puck. He tended to look smaller and was able to get in behind opponents to try and take the puck away from them. He doesn’t tend to engage in battles very often but rather stays out and open to be able to receive the puck. He has good puck handling abilities and I liked his stick preparation”

After leaving the NHL to re-join the Kingston Frontenacs, Paul McFarland had been keeping a close eye on the sophomore centreman and knew how important he is to the club. “He’s a guy who’s going to be very important to our program and we need him to take a big step from where he was last year and obviously we are going to count on him to play with good players and be able to contribute offensively but also be a guy who’s very competitive without the puck.”

He focuses on outspeeding defenders, on breaking in the offensive zone before the defence collapses on him, and then looks to fire on net. He is very net-focused, and very focused on getting shots off on the rush. He can turn steals defensively into offence. -EliteProspects 2021 NHL Draft Guide

Albert Sjöberg at eliteprospects.com

Sjöberg’s energy and persistence are key to his style of play, and he is known for his on-ice work ethic. He doesn’t shine every time he hits the ice, but he contributes with every shift. His scoring touch and well-rounded play will be useful in North America, and he should be able to make an easy transition to a new league.

https://thehockeywriters.com/albert-sjoberg-2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/

Sjoberg playing in a bottom six role for Sweden provided energy every shift and playing with speed and pace to press the attack. Balanced skater with a strong stride, edgework, and top-level gear. Uses his speed to retrieve loose pucks and position himself in battles, where he likes to be. His speed can also be used to coast around the Offensive zone in possession. Spending many shifts 5v5 in the attacking zone. He is not a finesse kind of player and won’t blow you away with all around puck skills, instead works hard for his space and applying pressure to win pucks back for his team. He makes the most of the limited ice time he receives on this team by wearing down opposition’s top-lines. A guy we believe is capable of more if he saw more ice time. Has a style that will allow him to play a grinding game that benefits a bottom six spot for a franchise.

DRAFTPRO – IIHF U18 WORLDS – SWEDEN U18 REVIEW – DRAFT PROSPECTS HOCKEY

While he hasn’t lit up the scoreboard this season, Albert Sjoberg has captured FCHockey’s Swedish scouts attention. Mainly playing in the J20 Nationell season this year, Sjoberg collected 10 goals, three assists, and 13 points in 18 games. He’s since made the move to the HockeyAllsvenskan where he’s added one more regular-season goal in 17 games, and one playoff goal in four games. If you like players that never take the foot off the gas, you’ll like Sjoberg.

“Sjoberg is a player who competes very hard and played a fearless game,” FCHockey Swedish scout Viktor Bergman recently reported. “He’s not afraid to get into dirty areas, there was no hesitation when he blocked a shot, and he was quite effective with his stick. He has a decent frame and even if he is not the largest player on the ice, he seemed quite strong. He used his body and strength to both protect the puck and bump players of the puck. Sjoberg was really solid off the puck as well. He had really good positioning in this game and used shoulder checks to know what is happening around him. He was at the right place all game long and had the awareness to identify if there was a need to cover up for his teammates.”
