Most of that draft sucked after Dahlin, Svechkinov, Hughes and Tkachuk. I figured at the time Montreal was going to be disappointed in Kotkaniemi. Not a good year for Montreal to win the lottery. The second round was full of trash too.

Hayton was a surprise!

But who behind him has fulfilled the expectations? Nobody except Hughes. Zadina is just such a flop and we would tear him apart too. Wahlstrom is ok. Dobson and Bouchard would have been great too, but didn't make sense at the time.

Hayton got messed up by sitting in the stands too early in the NHL. he should have played the two years OHL and then the year AHL.

Ken Holland was GM at Detroit then. And they were a bigger mess than we were.

Chayka was the GM and with Hayton he had his Premium Center, which the organization had been looking for forever and was now able to get another RHD D-Men with Söderström.

I think that was his take on it all.
