It's not a question of location for a new arena. It's a matter of financing, and having a lease situation where the Coyotes can feasibly survive. Having 3 major arenas in an already crowded event market changes things. So does having to work around the Suns. So does ASU not being able to print money and go big on an arena this early. There are a lot of big challenges with each potential location.

Until IA finds away around these challenges, or someone gracious/crazy enough to bulldoze through them, the Coyotes will be homeless.

Guys, this location makes perfect sense. Think about it, the Coyotes want to do a partnership with ASU hockey, which is INSANELY blowing up in talent and they are desperate in having their own real arena to play in. This is right across the street from Oceanside where ASU currently plays at. This is right down the street from Arizona State, Tempe Market Place is right across the highway, which I'm sure they will build a great access way to and from the arena. Plus, this is pretty much the center point of the valley where the majority of people who have money and love hockey live. Scottsdale north, Paradise Valley northwest, Fountain Hills northeast, Tempe south/southwest, Chandler southwest, Gilbert southeast, and we can obviously forget about 80% of Mesa.

Am I right or am I right?

Its Salt River-Pima land. So unless ASU or Tempe are gonna throw money at the project they would put an Arena at Talking Stick.

You guys are making great points.

I'll make it clear now that if we get a new arena, I'm 100% sure this will be the location. We will just have to wait and see!

I wonder if we told Goligoski anything about the arena situation. We had to have something to convince him we're going to actually be here and not Quebec right?

He said he'd be "shocked" if they didn't have something to announce by the Draft.

I'm guessing he's going to be shocked.

Best possible time to announce is at the podium before pick number 4 (acquiring it from Edmonton for 7+37). LeBlanc announces arena deal on national TV. Lamb is on stage with a Roadrunners jersey on. Chayka makes the Tkachuk pick. Doan puts the jersey and hat on Tkachuk.

Here we go...

Salt River arena announcement may come Thursday

Poor Feckless. :sarcasm:

I want details, not "we've chosen this site and will work with our partners to make this project a reality." The latter is good enough for some people here but it's really the same non-answer crap that IA has been getting away with for a long time.

This site seems perfect.

3 arenas in the area though. That's a little much. Does Gila River get destroyed or what is it used for?

the logical thing would be for the suns and coyotes to both build a new arena on this site, and share the site. like most normal cities, where the teams share an arena, haha. I haven't been to the former America West Arena in probably 8 years or so, not sure if it's outdated or not to be honest from a basketball perspective

GRA will probably turn into an indoor mall or something. I can say with certainty, that if the Coyotes move this way, I won't ever step foot in Glendale again. I love the Cards, but I like watching football on TV better.

The Suns SHOULD share an arena. I'm not the biggest basketball fan, but if the Yotes played an AM game, and the Suns played a PM game, I'd probably take in a few more Suns games per year. Right now I'm averaging about one per year.

It just makes the most sense, so much that it won't happen.

Teams that share an arena are usually owned by the same entity. The problem with downtown Phoenix is that the Suns hold all the cards. The problem with financing a third arena in an already crowded events market is that it makes every breakeven equation a little more ******.

Now, the tribes can basically do whatever they want. It's their land, and their money. They really don't 'care' about breaking even the same way a city normally would. If they want to build a Tempe Marketplace-ish mall with an arena, they can. It's really about them ponying up the dosh at that point, and how nice of a lease they want to give the Coyotes. The Suns can always be lured away later (in five years, at the earliest).

The Coyotes will need a very favorable financing package to get this thing off the ground, and a favorable lease to keep the team alive. If they make such an announcement with basically zero details, you guys may as well consider the season a farewell.

You should go and read other teams forums. Every organization has a divided fan base. At the moment the Ducks, who are very well run by the way, are getting roasted for hiring Carlye. Chill out, this team is not going anywhere.

As they should be haha...that was one of the worst hires of all time.

Someone else (Feckless? ) suggested it might end up a mega-church. Seems plausible.

Not that it matters much, sunk costs.

It'll have to be, because with 3 arenas Glendale loses out completely. They'll be competing with an entity that can subsidize events in order to attract people to their casinos. I'm sure that's not lost on AEG either, which is why they have an out.

What would be the icing on the cake is if AEG went over and ran the new arena in conjunction with IA.
