Thought about retiring to become a pastor. Thought about it loudly enough that everyone heard about it.

Again, Doan is not a bad leader. He's one of the best. Hockey players don't fix severe character flaws in their teammates. That's all. None of them.

Agreed you can't fix someone who wants to be an *******.

Just stopping by to give you a report on DeAngelo. Take it as you wish.

I saw a couple AHL games last year when he played the Phantoms.

He was one of the worst dmen I have ever seen defensively. And no, this is not a hyperbole. Multiple times he would make a pinch, or rush, or skate puck behind opposing teams net only to be completely caught out of position which resulted in chances galore for the other team. His defensive IQ is bad, as he consistently loses his man in the dzone and is out of position quite often. Can tell just by watching him that when he's in the dzone it almost seems like a chore for him.

Also the fact that he seems to be an ******* with over controlling parents make him a ticking time bomb IMO.

He's a star just purely offensively, but he has a ton of risk as a prospect. Good luck.

I think I will make my own observation about him when I see him play in pre-season. We all know he is an offensive Dman, so where were the forwards that should have been covering?

Deangelo has a ways to go defensively. No doubt.

His offensive instincts are off the charts good though. Amazing talent. Huge upside. In fact, he's one of the guys that I had circled even back when Tampa was rumoured to be interested in Yandle.

I never imagined he would be available let alone at the price we paid. Look at what RHD are being traded for today. We bought low on this asset.

So could he potentially be a PP specialist? Put him with a PK specialist on the 3rd pairing?

Or split him between the Coyotes and Roadrunners (depending on his waiver status).

Ideally, give him the first half of the season with the Roadrunners focusing on improving defensively and then bring him up to the Coyotes for the second half of the season. Of course with Stone out, I guess he could start with the Coyotes (so we can see if he is ready for NHL duty), then head down to the Roadrunners while we wait and see if Stone recovers his game upon his return, and possibly back up towards the end of the season.

I believe every word of this, and I personally don't think he will make it in the NHL. BUT the potential upside is enormous, and for the price we bought him at, it was a good roll of the dice. Homerun swing for the 37th pick? And he's already old enough to play in the AHL. Not much to complain about.

If he has severe defensive shortcomings, we could always try and convert him to the RW; at this point, we need all of the RHSs we can get :)

It's probably too late in the game to make that big of a change in DeAngelo's game, but you never know...
