I don’t feel like we’re going to be any worse than we were last year, unfortunately. We have a different team for sure, but we added a lot of size. I think ghost does better than OEL numbers (here). I think Timmins is better than Demers so that may be a slight upgrade. Whoever replaces Goligoski will be interesting.

Point production, we lost Garland. I love Garland, wish we could have kept him, however he was only hot at the beginning of the year, was a little streaky.

Where it’s going to hurt is in goal. We don’t have anyone worth a shit back there now.

I think it’ll be a more entertaining brand of hockey while we rebuild in the process. Curious to see how Tourigny coaches and how he deploys his team.

I think we’re in major trouble. I’m actually concerned the team will be so bad that it will poison a lot of our positives and have lasting repercussions for years.

It’s not the lack of top-end talent that freaks me out. I’m used to that. It’s the complete lack of solid, veteran insulation. Not only is the team lacking a top end, but it’s paper thin, and unbelievably shallow. 1-2 injuries away from the worst team in a quarter of a century.

Not my forte. I honestly don’t love the fit with Boston.

i think we are waiting to see who loses the Eichel deal. I’d love to get Rossi out of Minni. If he’s available.

Boston made more sense when it was a package deal that included a winger in Garland. Now its a package built around the 2022 first and the desire to accept something built around DeBrusk is limited. Largely dependent on if/when we move Kessel.
It’s nobody’s forte-haha. Could be Vaakanainen would see the light and become the perfect partner for Timmins and anchor our 2nd pair behind Chychrun for a decade. Could be that a Studnicka never becomes more than a rambunctious 4th line C/W combo ala Jay Beagle.

There’s no way of knowing. And it’s all just opinions.

We have 12...NHL-ish players signed, not including Hayton, Macelli, Boko, or Jenik, who probably have a decent shot at getting NHL time.

We have 4 NHL D, depending on if Stralman is healthy, and if Provolnov/Kolyachonok are any good in the NHL, potentially more.

Hutton...I would barely trust as a backup goalie. Korenar I would ideally put in the AHL.

I think there's a decent chance we lose Ladd, Stralman, and Eriksson to LTIR or retirement.

I'm perfectly okay with putting Dzingel, Capo, Provolnov, Kolyachonok, Boko, one of Macelli/Jenik and Fischer into the AHL.

If Stralman and Ladd are healthy, we have Eriksson, Beagle, Stralman, and Ladd in leadership roles. I think that's pretty good. Eriksson and Beagle SHOULD be good on this roster in those terms, they both have experience and are journeymen with good times behind them. Ladd and Stralman have barely played lately but certainly have a ton of experience otherwise.

I would love to get 1-2 more D from FA on the cheap. Murray is probably one of the better ones available, but I would also love to just pickup Coburn, Johnson, Hickey or Stone to push one of our younger players down, provide some experience, and competition.

I think we need to sign either Rask or Dubnyk. Dubnyk should be cheap and who knows what Rask is getting.

I also wouldn't mind a Staal or Bozak signing cause our center depth is ass and I'd really rather not have someone like Beagle, Larsson or Dzingel as our 2C. Nor do I think we should spread out our talent and have Dvorak and Schmaltz separate. Ideally Hayton plays well and is our 2C.

We do have Kessel but I think we can all agree he's not going to be here. If Dvorak gets traded I don't know what the f*** we're doing, cause I doubt Hayton or Guenther are a year away from being our 1C. I'd rather not have them abused nightly and figured out before we are competitive. A year from now without these contracts should be fine, plenty of big names coming off contracts and some guys like Domi who have been underperforming. Honestly with a new arena potentially we might be willing to spend a lot more next year especially with like 14m+ coming off the books and guys like Trochek, Barkov, Domi, etc all available and a decent fit for our timeline (not great but not awful).

This is kind of what I'm thinking. The goaltending thing is kind of a wild card. Who knows, maybe we get the good Carter Hutton. Having watched him in Buffalo some, he's an enigma. He was garbage for most of last year, but he has had stretches sometimes where he just looks unbeatable. Maybe Korenar takes a huge leap forward and we've got something there.

Interesting 31 thoughts podcast with a specialist talking about Eichel surgery options dropped last night.

At this point, Buffalo destroyed Eichel much like what we all expected Edmonton would do to McDavid given how many previous 1OAs they managed to FUBAR.

That just reaffirms how far above the crowd McDavid really is. All he’s lacking is a cape.

We are about to witness history, 30 to 40 points is where I see us. It’s not a long fall but we are the new Buffalo. The funny part would be if we lose the draft lotto too.

Don't know much about Kolyachonok, but Timmins is 2 yrs older and has 33 NHL games under his belt. Good chance he's on the opening day roster.

You’re too binary in your thinking. There is a spectrum of tanking. Yes I wanted to reset. Our core was hopeless. I have zero issue with any of the things BA has done. My big problem is what he has not done. You can tank too hard. You can been too bad. He should have brought in some more useful pieces via FA.

That’s only true if they do nothing to address the goaltending. I think they’ll do something. And the team will get 52-69 points.

I think we're not done on the trade front or fa signing front. We will get another goalie and maybe forward signing or two yet.I also think Beagle is in jeopardy of not even playing for us due to health and I've read stuff pointing to Erickson possibly retiring.
Our top four d-men looks set. There may be an opening for bottom 2 pairing.Timmons will be in the top four in my opinion.Goaltending scares me though.Hope something gets done to fix that.

I think Aku Raty will soon be traded to the Isles to join his brother there. Although he shows competitiveness and jam which BA likes, he's still a pick by the old regime and a winger. BA has been clearing those out.

Probably for a 2022 4th or a AHL goalie.

I was thinking the over under would be 50 points, but you are likely right, it will be much lower. It will be interesting to look at the Vegas line to start the season. I also think we lead the NHL in GAA and GF.

Kolyachonok could be in the NHL, so could Timmins, honestly I forgot about him, but it doesn't change my post.

Is it really smart to "clear those out"? I hope that's not the way to put it.

If goaltending isn't working out, it's not like it's going to be expensive to acquire some one midseason. I'm sure they are looking at free agents. The team actually has a good opportunity to offer the caliber of goalie they are looking for - our prospect goalies aren't ready to come in and steal the job, who we have currently will look passable by whomever is on the market, and lastly we have had a good goaltending staff and track record of eking out value in that position and turning around guy's careers.

With regards to the lineup getting weaker, it's countered by a new coach. If he's on that much higher of a level than Tocchet, you can expect the team to generate more possession into the offensive zone which leads to more chances for most every one. I think that can very easily overcome the loss of scoring from Garland. It's not that high of a bar. Imagine one of these other young guys finally clicking and having their break out year instead of penciling in some one like Crouse for 15 a season each and every offseason only to get 5 from him. We are going from stagnation to innovation.
