Yep, and then the second wave will strike and we'll have massive spikes in the number of cases because people will have been morons. At this point I just hope it doesn't get bad enough to force another complete shutdown again.
And we need to get self-reliant ASAP as far as medicine and essential resources such as food go, other countries should too. It isn't protectionism, it is a measure of survivalism for nations now. The IMF and World Bank can go die in a ditch with their recommended guidelines for productivity and the repayment of debts because those are not helping, at all.
It won't happen again. You have to understand the context of the complete shutdown. Nothing was known about that virus, the way it worked, who was affected the most etc. They closed everything down because it was flaring up like crazy everywhere, and people where dying in masses in Europe. Now 6 months later we have a much clearer picture of what is working and what is not, and the key for less deaths is to protect the old people. It flared for you guys in July, ok no panic, just wear a mask in public and bingo, it went down again.
Here in BC we were proud of our numbers, so low, and now, we are worse than you guys and nobody is panicking, not even Dr Bonnie Henry because hospitalisations remain low.
We have to keep the infection rate in check but it will never go back to a full shutdown. And some treatments are showing up now to help those in dire conditions, like Remdesivir, Interferon, Dexamethasone, and others will come up in next few months.
