they are getting really far from the playoff spot in a already really tight league.

Doubt they make it with boston/Mtl and Toronto/Florida pushing

Probably won't make the playoffs at all. If they do, guaranteed first round exit (high probability of sweep).

Your "really far from the playoff spot" is two points right now and they have two games on hand on Montreal, three on Florida and four on Toronto.

Agreed. Those 2 points seem insurmountable to me at this point in the season.

How many teams have come back from a 2 point deficit roughly 19% into the season? None, I'm guessing.
do you not get how strong the east is ? every team will fight, nothing prove that Tampa will be able to step-up even more than other teams

The outlook is pretty good for them right now, the only dangerous looking team so far in the East is Washington.

LIGHTNING STRIKE NINE TIMES IN FIRST GAME SINCE GLOBAL SERIES

In their first game back from the 2019 NHL Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden, the Lightning erupted for four goals in each of the first and second periods to become the second team to score nine goals in a game this season.

* The Lightning’s four tallies in the first 6:42 of Thursday’s contest marked the fastest four goals to begin a game in franchise history. Additionally, only five teams in the last 25 years have accomplished the feat in that span or faster.

* Tampa Bay became the 79th team in NHL history to score at least four goals in each of their first two periods of a regular-season game and just the third in the last decade. The others: NYI (Feb. 11, 2011) and STL (Feb. 19, 2011), who accomplished the feat eight days apart.

* Thursday marked the second time the Lightning have featured five players each record at least three points in a game (Nikita Kucherov: 1-3—4; Steven Stamkos: 1-2—3; Victor Hedman: 0-3—3; Yanni Gourde: 1-2—3; and Alex Killorn: 2-1—3). The other: Oct. 30, 2018 vs. NJD.

* Tampa Bay is the second team to feature five such players in a game in 2019-20, after Colorado achieved the feat seven days ago against the Predators on Nov. 7. The last team with more than five players with at least three points was Edmonton on Nov. 19, 2011 vs. CHI (6).

* Thursday’s contest was the third game this season with 12 or more combined goals (including shootout-deciding goals). The others each featured 13 goals, when Tampa Bay recorded a 7-6 OT win at New Jersey on Oct. 30, while Colorado posted a 9-4 win vs. Nashville on Nov. 7.

Buffalo has already started their meltdown, Montreal and Florida are not that strong either and Toronto is struggling as well. Tampa won 62 games last season, I think they've proved they're a good regular season team. They'll make the playoffs easily unless something chatastrophic happens.

It certainly could be. Just need our players to actually show up and our coach to make necessary adjustments in the playoffs. Which I'm not exactly counting on happening.

okay, follow your rhetoric,

MTL is on a winning spree and Price is freaking solid, good luck breaking Price.
Florida is winning again and is getting mentally stronger by the games ( see their history comaback)
Toronto will only get better with Marner coming back.

NOTHING shows Tampa Bay coming back up, and they won't displace Boston and Montreal for sure.
They will FIGHT, yes, but they don't have a guarantee spot, far from it.

The Lightning win majority of the games they have at hand they will find themselves in the thick of things again.

If we take care of our games at hand we're within striking distance of top 5 in the league, and that's with the mediocre start. Making the playoffs isn't a concern right now.

You're right, they don't have a guaranteed spot... just like Boston, Montreal, Toronto, and Florida don't lol. Tampa bay has played only 16 games. I'd be very surprised if they dont make it at least in a WC spot.

It's kind of obvious to say it, but if you want real cred as a genuine cup threat, I think it's always good to go through a period where you have to scuffle and graft in the regular season. Having things go "too well" in the regular season and soaring above the rest of the league really hasn't ever worked as a prelude for postseason success (unless it was an experienced veteran team with at least some championship experience)

The Pens teams of 2016/17 had to have a coaching change, numerous trades, and some weak regular season patches before their runs, and they came out better for it. Everyone knows the story of the Blues last year, dead and buried by the midway point. Similarly, the Caps of 2018 were not as good on paper as the wrecking ball teams from a few years earlier, but when the postseason came that didn't matter.

I think TBL's bad start might be the best thing to happen to them. They are looking every bit as talented as the last few years. I doubt they will sneak up on anyone after last year's regular season, but I think they're a very good shot for the Cup based on the adversity (and last year's debacle) and with a roster tweak or two will probably be rolling by March.

Hope so. I'll be rooting for Tampa in the post season this year if/when the Blues crap out because of Maroon and Shatty. Them boys deserve it.

If we keep saying "this is their year" then eventually we're bound to be right!

After they all made us look like fools last year, they owe us one.

Fun fact: in the two recent years where Tampa was voted #1 favorite for the Stanley Cup by HFBoards (16-17 and 18-19), they won a combined total of 0 playoff games.

They were also voted the #1 favorite for the 19-20 season.
