So happy for Leo to finally win this one!!! He was one of the worst players on the pitch tonight, but he brought them here to begin with.

Couple notes. Scaloni, besides the fact that he seemed to select and play the best players in Argentina for a change (compared to his predecessors), was very good at reacting to what was happening during the game. Noticed Acuna was being killed in the second half and brought on Tagliafico for help, took off Paredes and Lo Celso before they'd get the red.

di Maria MOTM was a joke, should have gone to one of De Paul, who today was Kante defensively and Messi offensively, or Romero.

Renan Lodi can't be the best left back in Brazil, impossible. Emerson played out of position brought so much more than him.

I have such a love/hate relationship with Neymar. He can be an insufferable prick, and he can also be the definition of class in the span of 5 minutes.

Alex Sandro is one of the most overrated full backs in the world but he’s still better than Lodi. Brazil have not generated good full backs since Marcelo and Dani Alves.

I see Brazil too ineffective relying solely on Neymar. Kind if when Argentina was relying too much on Messi. Messi was able to perform in this tournament because he had good support from other players mainly De Paul, Lo Celso, Martinez and Di Maria.

Congratulations Argentina! It is finally done! The title is more than deserved. Messi's has now also shown it to the most meticulous critics.

Argentina!

If there ever was a moment that summed up Messi in an Argentina shirt in a key game, it was his chance in the 88th minute.

The Copa America was not taken seriously in those days, they didn't send their A teams.

Neywar was totally fake crying at the end there, he was all smiles with the argentine players 3 minutes later.

This is nonsense. Throughout the history of the Copa teams have sent their best players and it is a highly regarded tournament. Many players of high renown have emerged at the Copa.

Happiness sheer happiness. Having watched time and time again Argentina fall at the final hurdle with some magnificent players and teams the result was all important. I was starting to think I might shuffle off this mortal coil without seeing the side win again.

Scaloni did a number on Tite tactically. High pressed, pressed in numbers and managed to slow the tempo from the start with some neat triangles and holding the ball. And when Tite decided to bring on an extra attacker bringing on Tagliafico to work with Acuna to nullify the crosses coming in from the right and Richarlison as the pressure built. de Paul was MOTM. Simply outstanding. But they all did their job. Montiel for instance complete with bloodied sock made his tackles and interceptions, Otamendi looked solid no doubt aided by having Romero with him although Cuti did leave the heart in the mouth at one moment.

Scaloni was a cheap cheap option when chosen given the AFA was near bankrupt. However he along with some wise heads in the form of Samuel, Aimar, Placente and Ayala have learnt from mistakes, fostered a great team spirit and made Messi feel at home and got the best out of him. Not to mention overhauling an ageing side. However this success needs to be the start of trying to win more titles and looking unfortunately and sadly to an Argentina minus Messi post 2022.

There are still weaknesses in the team. Some players need particularly the younger ones need to realize sitting on benches or sticking around in a 'minor' league is not the best way forward. We saw that with Martinez and Romero who wanted to show what they can do. The youngsters will no doubt get a lot of confidence from this success and the whole morale of Argentina as a footballing nation lifted. But they also need to learn that they have to continue to improve and become invaluable assets for their club sides and become leaders. So Nico G at Fiorentina for instance talented as he is needs to become a leader for them, young Perez (which he has already done to be fair to him at Familcao and a weak Parma team), Palacios at Leverkusen after having been treated ridiculously by Bosz. Even El Toro needs to become more of a threat and others with no denigration aimed at Ajax need to move on. Namely Licha Martinez.

The DM area is a weak one. Paredes is not a DM although he played well. Someone like Licha seems an ideal candidate. Perhaps Asascibar can shine again at Hertha as he did before injuries took a toll. Talent will continue to pour out of Argentina as soon as it is recognized which is unfortunate but inevitable. Therefore the age division sides need to be looked at seriously and treated as the stepping stones they were under Pekerman and Tocalli and show a distinct improvement over recent efforts. Sending a weakened side to the Olympics for instance is something that I do not approve of.

However that is for another day. To DucheneM, and indeed all Albiceleste fans around the globe if they happen to read this. Vamos Argentina carajo. What tremendous joy. The smile has not left my face and I don't think it will until the next match in the qualifiers. Wear that beautiful blue and white jersey with pride. The only sadness being that Diego and Alex Sabella were not around to see this.

Agree with your other points, but Alex Sandro was injured tonight, and Vini Jr. should not be a consistent starter for anyone.
Junior like Icardi are world class players that get Balotelli treatment just because they’re outspoken. They get purposely benched and prevented to show their true class which everyone would be able to admire. It’s like how Payet is at the same level of de Bruyne but Real or Barca won’t buy him.

Then and there
Messi with the worst miss of his life

He is human after all (and he was playing injured after all the hacking through the tournament).

But so happy for him to finally winning one even if it was later in his career.

This level Argentina won't win at WC 2022, ut wih a couple of adjustements they could still progress deeper in the knockouts.

Anything can happen. They are the most balanced argentinian team that I have watched. They also have now one of the best GK.

Hats off to neymar For being such a great sportsman, he’s gonna get a lot of flack for Brazil losing the final at home , he could’ve easily taken off but he was beyond class and genuinely happy for his pals Messi and DiMaria.

Don't you know Neymar is the spoiled brat who dives all the time while Harry Kane is the ultimate gentleman?
