yeah, a 33 point improvement has to be top-20 for sure you would think

Doing a quick check, by team. (This obviously ignores the difference between full and strike shortened seasons)

Anaheim - 29pts - 01-02 to 02-03.
Boston - 25pts - 91-92 to 92-93.
Buffalo - 37pts - 73-74 to 74-75.
Calgary - 20pts - 13-14 to 14-15.
Chicago - 32pts - 81-82 to 82-83.
Columbus - 32pts - 15-16 to 16-17.
Dallas - 38pts - 95-96 to 96-97.
Colorado - 26pts - 08-09 to 09-10.
Detroit - 38pts - 85-86 to 86-87 *(from Horrendous to average ).
Edmonton - 37pts - 80-81 to 81-82.
Florida - 25pts - 13-14 to 14-15.
LA - 27pts - 89-90 to 90-91.
Minnesota - 22pts - 01-02 to 02-03.
Montreal - 33pts - 42-43 to 43-44. (I know )
Nashville - 17pts - 02-03 to 03-04.
New Jersey - 21pts - 10-11 to 11-12.
New York (R) - 33pts - 92-93 to 93-94.
New York (I) - 44pts - 00-01 to 01-02. (WOW)
Ottawa - 37pts - 95-96 to 96-97. (See Detroit)
Philly - 39pts - 06-07 to 07-08.
Phx/Ari - 28pts - 08-09 to 09-10.
Pittsburgh - 47pts - 05-06 to 06-07.(Crosby)
Carolina - 36pts - 03-04 to 05-06.
St Louis - 27pts - 79-80 to 80-81 & 98-99 to 99-00.
Tampa - 24pts - 01-02 to 02-03.
Toronto - 32pts - 97-98 to 98-99.
Vancouver - 31pts - 90-91 - 91-92.
Washington - 34pts - 98-99 to 99-00.
Winnipeg - 15pts - 13-14 to 14-15.

For the Active Teams, this season for the Oilers is definitely I the top-20.

(Check wasn't THAT quick lol)
It's also possible I didn't get the right spreads.

Stauffer was talking about this yesterday on his show. I believe he said the Penguins of 06-07 had the biggest jump in NHL history with a 47pt improvement.

There was a pretty good interview on Sportsnet.ca with Mark Scheifele and when the topic turned to the playoffs he had this quote:

Q: You mentioned your interest in the Maple Leafs. What other story of these playoffs grabs you?

A: I’m watching a lot of Edmonton.

Q: Because you’re close with Connor.

A: Close with Connor, and I like to see him do well because he’s such a good kid. He’s one of those guys you want to root for because he’s so humble and the best player in the world. Well, arguably. Him and Crosby. I like to follow buddies. I like to see good guys do well.

High praise and nothing new for you guys to hear but its always good when other players give props.

Very nice article. The Bromance is strong.

 Probably, I get the sense, the more I listen to guys being interviewed about McDavid, they truly just respect the hell of him. I know guys are that way about Crosby because he's great, but McDavid seems different.

The guys seem to respect the player and the person, which say a lot imo.

A lot of guys have lost testicles and fingers thanks to Crosby, it makes sense that Connor is more likable until he develops and strengthens that testicle shattering part of his game.

Then he will be truly generational.

If the NHL actually called the rules on obstruction/hooking/interference then maybe those guys wouldn't have lost those parts of their body. I expect McDavid will start doing the same fairly soon in his career unless things change.

yup, this 100%

if you want all your star players to turn into dirty "stick guys", just keep calling the game like you have the last 5-6 years NHL.... its a perfect recipe to make the stars dirty players

I realize it doesn't matter much, but it is going to bother me if Connor isn't on the cover of NHL18 and instead it's the leaf guys.Don't get me wrong I understand and think Matthews should be on the cover at some point but Connor is the future face of the league and was here first. I still think last year's vote was rigged against him. I mean the future face of the league, playing in Canada who had several stars of their own teams campaigning for him at the world championships and it winds up being Vladimir Tarasenko.

I agree too. I personally want the game to actually improve other than being a roster update buy though. NHL17 was extremely underwhelming. So far, we saw a glimpse of playing with the mouthguard half open and one handed stick deke.

Yeah, I always laugh when Milan Lucic blazes down the ice like Connor McDavid and than shoots on Carey Price who bounces and bungles it, into his own net.

Cannot imagine anything less. Seems like everyone holds this kid in extremely high regard.....fans included of course.

Special!

I play the game with my friend quite often. He can literally skate up to my blue line, fire a simple slapper, and it goes in. Yet I'll make a 2 on 1 play and his goalie saves it. Such a stupid game .
NHL Be a Pro Mode needs to be drastically improved as well. Its one of my favorite modes, but its been the same crap over the past couple of years.
If the full game trailer ends up looking like the previous NHL games, I'm not gonna bother buying it. Its been a roster update buy every damn past year.

I mainly play GM mode but the way the rosters and player stats work is so lame. And the way it sims is just stupid. I hope they improve it alot but I doubt it. They need some competition. EA is coasting out there.

So are they going to put James van Riemsdyk on it or something? Everyone - at least everyone in the GTA - knows he's the future face of the NHL.

No surprise here, but now it's officially official.

"Defenseman Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks, center Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and center Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers are the finalists for the Ted Lindsay Award, presented annually to the most outstanding player in the NHL, as voted by fellow members of the NHL Players' Association.

The winner will be announced at the 2017 NHL Awards at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 21 (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN)."

Third youngest Hart winner in NHL history and sweeps the offensive awards.

Still sometimes can't believe he plays for us :)
