Same here, I really wish it was an optionI’m with you, OP.
I’d pay to have the option to just have the rink mics.

Try having to listen to Hughson and Simpson. Brutal.
Why? He usually slobbers all over Matthews when hes doing Leaf games. LolI prefer when the Leafs play weekday away games so I don't have to listen to Paul Romanuk.
Do you really need someone to tell you whats happening during the game?
or maybe they could replace commentary with some on-screen text that pops up, like "OFFSIDE". That would even help for casuals watching hockey in a bar as well, where you don't hear the commentary usually. The ultimate would be to have multiple options, and in the internet age that is certainly possible.Rink sounds only is good for hardcore fans who don't need any help to figure out what they're seeing. But new and casual fans need the help to learn the game. Most hardcore fans forget how much they learned about the game from TV commentary, even the lower quality announcers.
Besides, it would be interesting for the first few games and then it would be just as boring and annoying as the announcers. I think the best solution would be if the commentary crew would just talk less.

It was tongue in cheek, my commentI prefer impartial commentating, but even if I didn't, his word choice is horrible.
"Like the predator he is..."
-Paul Romanuk on Erik Karlsson
Is that the sort commentating you enjoy? Probably not.

As myself and now Jaegardice have now posted you can set up surround sound and unplug the middle speaker and will get rid of all the voices and leave the background 'hockey' sound. Logitech has a set that can be bought for under $100
