The thing is that the trade is not for McDavid, it would be to make your team like the Edmonton Oilers. For what you would have to give up to get McDavid your team would effectively become "the team with McDavid" and would probably perform no better than the 2017-2018 Edmonton Oilers.

I know we've had those discussions for fun before, and usually they're started out with "just for fun - what would be fair value knowing Edmonton is never actually trading McDavid".

This is different. You're hired as GM of your team, and your job is to land McDavid, no matter the cost. You have to somehow come up with an offer Edmonton *will* accept, in reality.

Can you do it?

Don't worry about overpaying - remember the goal is to do whatever it takes to ensure Edmonton says yes.

Which teams are able to land McDavid under this premise, and which teams fall short?
