Is Hertl actually playing C? And having him going into a RFA negotiation when he's already paid $3m is a tad antsy...

Not interested in that swap. Hertl and Couture have done very well together and if they aren't already effectively their top line, they could move Hertl up with the Joes to be that if they want.

Recent lineup charts, Sharks GDTs and the post below would seem to indicate the answer is no.

So this is shaping up to become one of those fun threads where fanbases argue over who wants to do the trade less. I'm not suggesting that Sharks fans should be all over this trade, only that Hertl doesn't address the issue that the OP says it does.

It addresses the Jackets issues more than it does the Sharks. Hertl isn’t playing center right now but he is absolutely a capable centerman who drives play. The main reason he is on the wing is because he has Joe Thornton and Logan Couture on his team. The other reason is that the Sharks need a scoring winger, like the OP says. But like, it’s much simpler to move Hertl to wing than it is to trade him for a different winger.

It doesn’t really matter whose needs this addresses more. If neither team wants to do it then who cares if it addresses either teams needs?

It helps both teams out, yet both fan bases think that the other team gets the higher value in the trade.

Perfectly fair trade in other words?

No, it does nothing for SJ. Why trade one scoring winger who can also play center for a scoring winger. Makes no sense.

"Hey, SJ, I know you need some scoring wingers, so trade us your scoring winger for our scoring winger."

Except it doesn't actually help the Sharks out and the value is fine regardless. But it's just a swap of wingers from the Sharks' perspective. Columbus probably views it the same way but with extra money going their way for this year only.

I don't think either team accepts this trade. Columbus has their needed sniper, and Sharks have their future top center.
