Sounds like a team that needs a trade for Simmonds.

If we hadn't just torn down a team of overpaid older vets in order to go with youth and rebuild through the draft, it definitely could make some sense. And, I'm sure Pierre LaCroix would have been all over it.

Simmonds is barely if at all a top 10 rental. There are so many guys ahead of him. If he is lucky he will get a 2nd rounder. Either way the Avs likely are a bubble team and wont do rentals.

So no fit, too high of an ask and all around nothing to discuss here.

If Phi goes out and gets ahead of the market then they could get more, but if they wait until the tdl and guys like Stone, Duchene, Ferland, Hayes, Panarin, Nyquist, Nelson, Zucc, Silfverberg, etc. start getting moved before him then there will only be so many buyers.

I could see him getting a decent retrun as I could see him getting way less then expected. All depends on how quickly they are able to move him

Colorado not having depth scoring is a myth. They have 6 forwards who are producing at .5 points per game or higher (min. 20 games played) this season. That's more than, or equal to most teams in the league. Only 5 or 6 teams have more than 6 forwards scoring at or above .5 points per game.

Conditional pick swap - if the Ottawa 2019 pick wins the draft lottery (18.5% chance at most), the pick is swapped with the Flyers 2019 1st (likely top 5), plus add Flyers 2020 pick, unprotected.

So basically between 81.5-100% chance COL just gets Simmonds rental for nothing. Flyers improve odds of getting Jack Hughes to possible 32% but also have to give an unprotected 2020 1st round pick to draft him if the ottawa pick wins and not the flyers

Avs just keep their pick and start to play younger guys once we fall out of the playoff race. And trade UFA that we have for picks. Go into the offseason with 35 million in cap space (10 mil set aside for Mikko) and possibly 2 top 10 draft picks while we also add Makar / Bowers / Kaut to the lineup next year. Our future could be worse.

Its not about Simmonds being bad, he is very good. Its about this rental market being insane. Simmonds probably falls in the 7-10 range for me for guys I'd look at depending on how many non UFA guys available from sellers.

If I'm not mistaken we are the worst team in the NHL since the start of December. We aren't trading for rentals. If anything we should trade all of ours for anything we can get.

Yes the top line makes them an offensive powerhouse its not their only offense. They could use more depth but pretty much every team can. I don't get why people think a team with as many goals scored as the Leafs and penguins has no depth scoring.

Thats what i was alluding to the in the last part of my post. If i were the Avs, i wouldnt have done Jost alone for Simmonds before i realized how 'bad' theyve been in recent weeks, let alone after.

How is Simmonds falls 7-10? who is ahead of him besides Duchene Stone and maybe Ferland who by the way probably will not be available.
