Caufield in playoff this year against Toronto and Winnipeg, show he can shoot the puck... but also got great passing ability with good defensive play. What is potential?

if he stays healthy, he has it in him to be a 40-40, ppg caliber pro through his prime... better if he plays with another elite player

I don’t know what his potential is points wise but I could see him scoring 40 goals more than once.

Sky is the limit for him. That said, I think he could reasonably be expected to put up 35-40 goals and 70-80 points in his prime.

though different in size, I see Cole Caufield and Alexander Holtz as similar type snipers who both have 40g, 80pt peak potential

I think he'll be a 25-40 goal, 65-75 point guy most years, so long as he's deployed in a top 6 role with other talented players.

Between Atkinson and DeBrincat
Atkinson at his peak was a 40 goal scorer playing on the Columbus Blue Jackets. Not totally convinced Debrincat has really eclipsed that, would like to see some more consistency from him season to season.

I'm obviously not talking about Atkinson career season of 41 goals and 69 pts.

I mean "Atkinson at his peak was a 40 goal scorer" when he has scored 40 once? I guess Chris Tierney is a ~40 assists guy

Outside of that season, Atkinson has scored 35 goals once and has four 20+ goals seasons.

Also, just watching them play DeBrincat is much more dangerous. He's only 23 and has a 41 goals season too and 32 goals in 52 games in 2021

50 goals is absolutely possible. Caufield is still very underrated. Great in many areas of the game as well contrary to what some people have said.

idk about points yet but seems like he's going to be exactly the player that he everyone knew he had the potential to be and make ~8-10 of the teams that didn't pick him look silly

I don't see any reason why he can't have the success that DeBrincat is currently having.

I think he will have some big years with 80+ points, and should have a few 40+ goal seasons, but I think a career average should be around 70ish points per season, which is a very good career average.

Between 2016-17 and 2018-19 Atkinson scored 100 goals in 227 games playing for Tortorella in Columbus. That's a 36 goal pace.

In Debrincat's last 3 years, he's potted 91 goals in 204 games, which is also a 36 goal pace, but he's played with Patrick Kane for most of his successful time there.

I don't doubt he can exceed Atkinson's peak, but he hasn't yet.

These are the 14 guys picked before Caufield

Jack Hughes
Kaapo Kakko
Kirby Dach
Bowen Byram
Alex Turcotte
Moritz Seider
Dylan Cozens
Philip Broberg
Trevor Zegras
Vasili Podkolzin
Victor Soderstrom
Matthew Boldy
Spencer Knight
Cam York

I have said for a while that Caufield will be a good top-6 forward but there's plenty of guys that'll be good in here, and some very good.

Hughes, Zegras and Seider as elite players. Dach, Cozens, Byram and Boldy are going to be excellent too. Broberg, Kakko and Turcotte should/could be solid pieces too. I'm not a big fan of drafting goalies high but Knight is going to be among the best for a long time. Podkolzin, Soderstrom and York maybe should have been taken later but it's still early so I don't know.

Even after, there's still several players who could be as important or even better... Newhook (steal of the 1st round IMO), Heinola, Tomasino, McMichael, Pinto...

So who are those 8-10 teams that will look silly?

He was always boom/bust...and it sure looks like he will boom. Kid OOZES with offensive talent.

I’d say he’s a safe bet to be a 75 point scorer.

Not going to put a number to it, but his potential is very high.
