I know in the off-season some were saying that Romanov was our best prospect by far or just our top prospect but I disagreed saying CC was #1 and while I do wish he produced a little more at the WJC's, we are seeing why he was seen as a possible top 10 pick and why he has been our top prospect.
having romanov over caufield was really big "Poehling is our best prospect" energy

Love cc, but I love Romanov more.

Caufield is a better skater, quicker, better shot, then Locke. Locke was a heck of a play maker, he could dish the puck for sure but was just too slow, poor skater.

Caufield has his issues for sure, I don't think he will ever be a guy you put on the PK or known for his D, but the kid can shoot with the best of them, and is such a smart player in the offensive zone. The way he gets open despite everyone knowing if the puck is on his stick they are in trouble. He doesn't often get hit hard as he does a good job of avoiding the big hits despite having a target on his back. That said he will need to work on getting quicker, stronger, just like Gallagher did when he turned pro.

Locke had all the tools too. Could shoot and pass, dominated every league he played in... but never did anything in the NHL. You said yourself; he needs to get quicker and stronger. The same as Locke. Maybe Cole will succeed where Corey failed. I'm just not that optimistic about it. I haven't even began to touch on my severe lack of faith in this establishment's development of its prospects. I just don't think this goes anywhere.

I hope the kid makes me eat crow.

I still think of Corey Locke when I see Caufield play. Very similar in a lot of ways. Size, skating, shot... hope I'm wrong.
The only thing they have in common is being drafted by the Habs.

Caufield has way more pure talent than Locke not to mention he is a way better skater.

Locke was slower and poor skater though, you can't be undersized and slow while being a poor skater but certainly not 10-13 years ago.

Yeah slow in the early 2000s was another level. Corey Locke skated like he was an undersized Derian Hatcher. It was ugly. And his shot had nothing on Cole’s.

Locke was a phenomenal junior player and a great AHLer, but he didn't have the pure skill that Caufield has. Locke slipped in his draft year despite all the points... the scouts knew it at the time.

Caufield is a highly touted first round pick with a laser shot and good skating.Locke went 4th or 5th round and skated like your great aunt Fannie. The only similarities are they are both small forwards who were drafted by the habs.

Yeah, this comparison with Corey Locke is weird. They're nothing alike. Except the size... Even then.

I can’t really fault him, like most habs fans he’s likely traumatized by this franchise continuous failures to develop high end talent so he sets the bar really low and hopes to get pleasantly surprised by a prospect. With that said, I’m cautiously optimistic with Caufield. If he can find space to shoot in the NHL, he’s likely to develop into a powerplay specialist at the bare minimum. If he can’t, he won’t have a long career because he doesn’t have the physical tools to become a fixture on a bottom line.

There is a reason Locke got picked in the fourth round and it isn't because he was an equal prospect to Cole.......

Why are we discussing Holloway and Caufield? Caufield might not even play for the Habs. They need a #1C and he's trade bait in most of the Habs trade threads here

Of course Holloway is the better prospect. He's younger and already performing at a better rate, must bigger, physically he's NHL ready and he can play center and wing.

Caufield is more of a specialist. The kid can shoot. That's about it.

From the Holloway prospect thread... Makes you want to take out the good ol' throat puncher

Caufield doesn’t need time and space to shoot, this is what makes him elite. The release, the awareness and the power/accuracy. This isn’t like KK who has a nice wrist shot but needs 3 seconds to use it.
