He is getting his chances and is very young. Not worried about him
Even if he needs a few years at the AHL level, he’s still got something every other talent we have doesn’t posses and that’s the natural ability to score and assist on goals with a lethal force

Today’s NHL is different than it is even 5 years ago. I think Caufield would have busted the league open this year even just five years ago but because of changes to the league and the way players have grown as skaters we are a lot of bigger players with exceptional skating skills that really snuff out smaller players..

Unless Cole can become an elite skater he will not grow into the model sniper/playmaker he has shown the ability to posses at lower levels.

go Cole go

They are screwing this up at the moment, but the kid needs to reduce the number of fly by's on the forecheck. This part is not about changing his identity. It's just basic hockey. He can't be completely useless when he doesn't have the puck on his stick. No team will bear playing 4v5 for 1/3 of the game just to accommodate a powerplay specialist.

That said, this should be corrected gradually. Meanwhile, he should be given every opportunity to showcase and develop his offensive talent. Time to end this foolish bumper experiment.

I hope he stays down there till at the very least he is scoring more goals. When looking at his career, except this year, he has always scored more goals then assists. Must be a simple confidence issue that will eventually go away.

From our dreams as Calder cup winner to AHL and learning.

I'm not giving up on the kid unless HE gives up on becoming more then a one trick pony. That wrist shot is not enough to give him an NHL career. He's smart enough to know that...but is he willing to put in the work to become a better player?

Let's see....

Who was the last Habs Calder Cup player? ... Dryden in 1973? Caufield will end up as a good player, but I doubt he will reach Calder Cup level.

He just needs to spend more time in the A maybe a little less media attention and he just needs to be disciplined and play in a system. Time will tell but he is still very young and cocky so a little time away will prove to be a good test.

whoever dreamed that was delusional
The saddest part is alot of habs fans were very reserved about his projections this year. There was actually alot of talk from around the league and outside of montreal about him winning the calder or scoring 20 goals +.
They don't know the habs like we do tho

Price? Because Calder Cup is the AHL championship. You're referring to the Calder Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding rookie.

Yes you are right. My mixup. Following makes it clear.

Price was the J. Butterfield trophy winner in 2007 with the Hamilton Bulldogs winning the Calder Cup. The Jack A. Butterfield Trophy honors the most valuable player of the Calder Cup Playoffs, as voted by a panel of AHL coaches.

The last Calder Memorial Trophy winner for the Habs was Ken Dryden in 1972. The Calder Memorial Trophy is an annual award given "to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League." The last Canadian player winner was Cale Makar in 2020.

whoever dreamed that was delusional,

the kid will probably be a top 9 winger, 2nd to 3rd liner,

but he ain't gonna be a nylander or marner
He has top 6 potential. Not as a line driver but as a complementary player. The talent is there.

Guy had production comparable to Gaudreau. Came in and showed elite skills in the Stanley Cup playoffs. There was nothing delusional about thinking he could be a first liner, wtf.

Caufield have top line potential no doubt about that.

1 assist in 10 games this season with Habs but he play better than that. MTL have sucked that's not help. Suzuki got only 4 assists in 8 games too.

Caufield is electric, great hands, great hockey IQ, great speed, great shot, it's only a time to become a elite type of player. He got all tools to succed like Nick Suzuki.

Can we ever let someone loose on what makes them elite? No we always have to stifle in Montreal everyone has to be a Byron or Begin.
