Ya I can see that. Big gamble for a team without cap space.
It has to be at or under the buriable amount. Otherwise six years...just a massive unforced error from MacFarland after what's been a very shrewd offseason thus far.

Wood skates fast, hits hard, and will pot some goals. But as soon as his legs go, all those attributes are gone too. He otherwise has no special teams utility, no defensive utility, and takes backbreaking dumb penalties.

Hopefully 2.5 or under...if this starts with a 3, that's quite a commitment for a guy who has played 4th line minutes (I grant you the Avs will likely try to deploy him more...for better or worse).
It needs to be at the buriable amount.

Do people not understand the cap is going to go up to 100M during this 6 year period? Locking players up for small AAV on long term deals is actually very beneficial for teams right now.

At any cap the road to winning is not having too many dead wood contracts (like Gallagher) so you have room to add missing pieces. The top players are going to take most of that increase anyway. And there may be no increase. Covid could be on the uptick. Had a death near where I live in Ontario and an outbreak in a nursing home.

This is true.

On TSN today Bobby Mac and CJ said the cap is expected to be 87.5M next summer and $92M the summer after that.

87.5 seems light. I expected 90 next year, tbh

You’re right.. 27 year old who can play on your 3rd or 4th line and one of the best skaters in the league. Pretty good addition for anyone.

He's not one of the best skaters in the league. He's very fast in a straight line but you have to be able to way more than that to be considered one of the best skaters in the league. But he is quite fast and will cause havoc with it

What's a "small AAV"?

The cap goes up for everyone. Committing money to inefficient contracts just means you have less space than other teams.

This is hilarious. He skates fast in a straight line and mostly accomplishes nothing doing so. Probably takes a bad penalty on the forecheck.

I like Woods but a bit on the low side in actual offense. He's a poor mans Anderson.

He's likely to score 20 repeatedly on the Avs, but he's also likely to have serious "crash and burn" injuries.

he is not a 3rd liner, and he is not one of the best skaters in the league. He is straight line fast, but he has lost a ton of speed since his hip injury. Also, fast skater = good skater

Doesn’t matter . He will be useless in two years. This isn’t the type of player you give 6 years to.
His game is - Skate fast in a straight line . If he bets the puck, skates toward the net . If he can’t get a shot off , he crashes the net and hopes he beats the puck in somehow . If he manages to nit take himself out in the net or goalie , he has next to zero abilty to maintain possession . He has next to no hockey IQ .

GET THAT BAG MILES WOOD WOOOOOO!!!! Super happy for him if this is the case.

Colorado, though. What are y'all doing . Dude unfortunately looked lost most of the season. Careless penalties, terrible puck skills, still fast as f*** but he's like worse than Michael Grabner on breakaways.
