Avs are not strong enough all around to take on the crippling Ryan contract and a Karlsson (+Karlsson contract) that will be exiting his prime when they are ready to compete

Also I think Ottawa wants more, though with Ryan's contract the value might not be the worst

So.... Colorado and Ottawa are going to each eat 1/2 of Barrie contract so that Edmonton can fit him under the cap or what?

No from this Avs fan. We need the cap space next year to re-sign Rantanen, Zadorov, and the other youngsters that fill long term holes.

The number of tenth overall picks in the trade is too damn high!

Edit: Nvm, I didn't notice it was two transactions.

Seems pretty bad for Avs. Karlsson without an extension isn't worth the 10th + a likely top 5 pick in 2019 + taking Ryan's bloated contract

horrible for Ottawa

No it is not. Karlsson is a goner. This offer gets Ryan's albatross off their neck, and gives them a potential lottery pick back, plus 10, plus they can keep their 4th overall this year without reservations.

4th pick: Zadina
10th pick: Bouchard / Boqvist

2019 1st: Good chance of Jack Hughes, and probably no less than a player of Zadina's level.

You add this young talent to White, Chabot, Brown, etc. and this is the beginning of an excellent rebuild for the Sens. Then, they still get to trade Duchene and Anderson for more prime, young picks / assets. The Sens should just rebuild this for greatness instead of settling for mediocrity.

This is not the kind of trade Colorado should be making. Who knows if they keep it up or take a step back. They are potentially giving away two top 10 picks and taking on a bad contract. For a team that may still need a few years before they are Cup contenders, I think it's too early to do that.

IF Ottawa is trading Karlsson, I think this is about as good as they are going to get of a deal

Also Edmonton wins this trade easily.

I think (hypothetically) it would look more like this:
Col : Karlsson, klefbom , 10OA
Edm : Barrie, Col 16OA
Ottawa: return of their 1st round pick, 2019 Col 1st rnd pick, 58 OA, Soderberg
but really if Ottawa is going to suck so bad next year, and the kid they're talking about being the #1 OA is as good as they say....why would Colorado even consider this?

EDM and OTT win while COL gets absolutely shafted. Awful deal.

Which is funny because its pretending that 2 of the worst GMs in the league would be able to win a deal with Sakic which we know by now isn't going to happen.
