Remember, he only played 1 season and do prefer 3 years. Extra season would be more and there is a risk.

Last season, WSH considered not extending a new deal due to years of struggles. AVs provided the opportunity to excel. Extremely talented offensively and below average defensively. There are limits and needs the right environment to perform.

He could leave after 2 years and has every right to do so. No guarantee he repeats the AVs vs WSH player, so this is a reasonable deal.

Burakovsky is a limited player in a lot of ways, but saying this is an expensive contract for a 25 year old 20 goal scorer buying out one year of UFA is... a take.

I could see him getting exposed at the ED and then having a huge tear in Seattle like everyone that went to Vegas.

Add Taylor Hall or another Top 4D, or a quality 3C, and it becomes a 0% chance Burkie gets protected.

Absolutely not man, they ask EJ to waive his no trade, expose him and seattle doesnt take him, they take francouz as demkos backup.. no way they expose that many forwards in the ED

They can ask him but he is unlikely to say yes...

Even if he does, the Avs have been pretty verbal about wanting to sign another Top 4D who would require protection..

Either which way, it's pretty likely the Avs go 4F/4D as the protection pieces. Not uncommon at all when you have a good defense, lots of teams did this last time around as well.

I respect your opinion, but to me it sounds counter productive to go out and fill out the teams forward depth just to expose all the hard work you've done when all you have to do is not protect graves or ask EJ to waive. And if they are looking for another top 4 dman I doubt its longer than a 1 year deal, blocking the graduation of guys like timmins and byram

Don’t like this for the Avs. He’s a pretty good player, and young, giving him just 2 years then straight to UFA kinda sucks. Didn’t even really get a discount for giving him such a player friendly term.

ITT: People that don’t realize this deal includes 1 UFA year.
