Straight up, what's his value at his current cap hit?

I'd assume a 2020 5th at best, but I'm ears for anything else.

The Leafs are not going to trade him for a 5th. They probably won't trade him for less than a 2nd+. He has value to this team and fills a crucial role.

He probably should not be playing 22+ minutes a night, but you can blame that on Holl, Marincin, Sandin, etc. for not being good enough to handle more than 12 minutes a night.

Once Dermott returns, his minutes will likely go down. Until then, Ceci has been fine.

Leafs fans told us all summer long that Toronto was forced to take him in order to offload Zaitsev, and that that was the only reason they made the trade. He has only struggled in Toronto, so why would his trade value suddenly be positive?

A 5th rounder in 2021 isn't great value

Remember in the offseason when leafs fans were pushing Ceci and Spezza as improvements to the team. And that Barrie would improve their D.
Can't wait to see where that team is when December rolls around.

I'd trade dermott if the trade was

To mon
Dermott
Ceci
Toronto 3rd pick

To toronto
Weber 10% retained

Leafs d
Rielly-weber
Muzzin-barrie
Sandin-lilipad

If weber retires, cap hit goes against Nashville.

Barrie should be good, no?

He is very good offensively, a better version of Gardiner. He is brutal defensively though, a much worse defensive version of Gardiner. I like Barrie as a player in the right situation, he is very good on the PP, but he absolutely does not fit what the Leafs needed. If they were going to give up Kadri, they needed a Defensive D with some size and grit coming back. Scoring is not an issue for them, play defense is.

The team that was 18th in goals against last year added 2 guys with a combined -120 for their careers, and thought they’d get better defensively.

Remember when Avs fans were talking about how Chris Bigras won OHL Dman of the year and they pencilled him in on their top 4?

This just in: Fans tend to be optimistic during the offseason.

Lol.

Also, this doesn't work cap-wise for Toronto.

how has Ceci not been better than last year? his raw underlying numbers all look way better and he has a deserved positive goal differential. Plus he's producing better

If that’s true, why would the leafs trade him when your rhd is weak? Ceci has not looked good at all.
