Hutch and the posts definitely won that game for us. Good move by Kapanen on the first goal, sweet feed and beautiful tip on the second.

I've started to notice something in Hutch's game or rather seem to. It seems like Hutch gets nervous easily, like Leafs will take a lead and he tenses up not wanting to make a mistake and let in a goal, which makes him let in a goal. Tonight against the Islanders, I though he was very calm and steady, until the Leafs scored. The Islanders than hit 2 posts in about 5 minutes after that and he looked shaky for most of the rest of the game.

How do the Islanders have such a good record? Srsly, who are they beating?
There is a secret clause in the CBA just for them. It reads "that for every Islander home game, the visiting team will consist of players from the NY Jets", the sad part about this clause, is that the Islanders still find a way to lose these games.

remember a couple of weeks ago, when we needed to focus on catching Montreal, Buffalo and Florida, because we had no chance to catch one of the wildcard teams in the Metro? And people were saying how it might be too late to make up the ground and make the playoffs this year? I like this better.

And Isles are likely starting Greiss if they maintain their alternating Goalies routine this year. I know you are a Leafs fan, but isn't it a bit early make excuses?

I have to add, I love how Trotz articulates his thoughts after the game.
Cribbing what I heard.
`Dobber will be fine, Johnny told him that has happened to me a million times.
`Growing pains a 19 year old D man will go through and he will be better for it
`I would be happy to take this game any day, we just didn't have any luck
`Do we have character, we do to bounce back.
`I would be worried if we weren't getting chances but we are.
`Our defensive structure was good all game.

You just love a coach like this. You just feel a quiet confidence with him as the coach of a team

A brilliant little before and after snapshot of the game. Before, this poster is heckling Leafs fans who are just providing useful info for their GDT, telling them they’re making excuses. Then afterward lauding his coach for making excuses so he seems “confident” about his sinking team.

that Kapanen/Engvall attack was so pretty ive watched it like 5times
Kapanen is the perfect 3rd line winger and Engvall is a player for sure
the Tavares line was good
Marner was dancing: a late hit from Komarov it ignited Marner so ...
its so nice to see that the dirtiest teams like the isles bruins blues turn into angels when playin against the Leafs
id say its surprising but it happens every f***ing time
Rielly had a good game imho

Hutch was amazing
great call by Keefe as Fred needs some rest and we need to be more comfortable with our backup

great win
im really happy with the team
so so happy

I am so happy!!! The boys came to play. Never believed in Hutch - truly believed he is scrapyard material at this point. Damn... he really showed people like me up. Can we trust Hutch as the backup?!?! This question has been killing me.
I've said it all season .
Hutchinson is an average backup .
The loses weren't all his fault .
He was left out to dry by the players and the coach.
Same when Kaskisuo played against Pittsburgh, left out to dry.
Buffalo game 4 clear cut break aways.
Those games seem like a distant memory know.
We are giving up less high danger shots .
Keep improving bas a team and oul goaltenders will look better.
If Anderson went down I would be concerned but as a backup he is fine.

But but but who would replace the great Babcock if we fire him? A coach with no NHL experience?!?!!!!
You're really obsessed with Babcock aren't you. You might want to get that looked at. Hes gone us Babcock supporters have moved on an are HAPPY with what Keefe has done so far. 15-4-1? Why wouldnt we be? MOVE ON!!! Try it sometime.

Yeah, recently it really seems like it! :)
We still need to get better defensively.
Still to many dumb turnovers .

I love Hyman to death but he needs to get better in the dzone.
He has a hard time getting the puck out of our end.

Rielly try to make one extra move and then turns it over .

Mathews is starting to play a full 200' game . Working his ass of to get back in the dzone. Really liking his game.

Good, strong win.

One thing that has annoyed me the last while: Matthews and Marner having a bit of a hero complex. They are staying out there for too long, and they end up all three players down low too often. Islanders got a couple of odd man rushes from it tonight. Worst one was a couple of nights ago when Marner was so dead tired that he could barely backcheck, but stayed out for the next attack as well. They need to cut that out.

Don't want to be overly negative. I was very impressed by our handling of the game, that we could shut it down so Hutchinson got his shutout. I liked almost all players tonight. We are goood, people.

I see the former Leafs fan that transitioned to just an NHL fan has now become an Islanders fan.

not on the Leafs tho
whenever he was given the 1st or 2nd line duty he failed
his legs are faster than his brain most of the time
as far as im concerned i do not care if he is a 1st line player on the Sens
because im sure as f*** i dont wanna trade him

Whenever he’s been moved up he’s been forced to move over to the left side, which he isn’t comfortable playing.

Oh yeah...Hell Yeah. He was sent down. Keefe gave him the second chance of a lifetime and with sincerity too.

The Hutchinson family is spitting and throwing garbage at anything Babcock related. I bet the name Babcock results in his kids being smacked.

Babs left him out to dry, and then blamed him for being the cause of the losing streak.

Look at him now. Career worthy in the NHL.
Hutch was never a great goalie in the NHL even before Babcock. He played well (& kudos to him for that) and the team defended well in front of him.
But I still dont see him as the solution. But for now one game at a time. And hope Freddy stays healthy.

Great game tonight though.
