US Hockey gets very top heavy as it gets to the Bantam age, especially Bantam Major. Its just the way it is. Best kids in one area usually consolidate as organizations try and build teams that can compete for nationals etc. It sounds cheesy but usually the best kids want to play with each other and this aids in forming these teams.

That is why most top 10 teams would beat a team like Iowa (not picking on Iowa) by 5-10 goals. They'll have a good game here or there ands keep it close but that is the state of travel hockey.

So saying the tournament is lower tier 1 is not misguided or rude, it is 100% accurate. A very high end tier one tournament was in Chicago this weekend where the top Ontario team, Mississuaga Rebels came and played teams like Team Wisconsin, Chicago Mission, etc..

Both tournaments are necessary, as every teams get 4-5 competitive games. If Mission go to the tourney Iowa is at they go 5-0 and outscore opponents 35-2. If Iowa goes to Chicago they risk going 0-5 or 1-4 and being outscored 30-8. Again no disrespect to any team.

I can just as easily say there will be players on Dallas, Phoenix, even Iowa that will be better players than some kids on Chicago Mission, Team Wisconsin, even Shattuck. Just like your comment, it contributes nothing to the discussion on the player so I'm still completely confused why you're bringing it up.

The kid went from England U14/U16 to playing against bantam teams that have been regularly pumping out NAHL, USHL, NCAA, CHL players etc. and people still find the need to find a negative.

2003 born Zachary Stringer in Alberta, playing bantam as a double underager and off to a decent start. 10 pts in 8 games.

http://www.ambhl.ab.ca/leaders_scorers.php?season_id=11

Benson got 84 pts as a underage player for comparisons sake. Kirby Dach broke Benson's record and got 100 pts as an underager and he's ranked 1st for the 2001 dob in the whl. Keeps progressing at this level he might even surpass Dach's record next year for all we know.

Stringer also was one of the leaders in that summer tournament in Europe. Massive kid also, already 5'10 or 5'11.

Nobody was looking for a negative. If you used basic reading comprehension you would see that someone asked what level was the competition. It was answered and then you didn't like the answer. (So you said it was a misguided assumption) Then a detailed explanation was given to describe the different levels in bantam hockey. You may of just missed the original question.

On a side-note a team does not make a player so the best players in the country may be on average or weak teams or the best teams (one never knows). The best 14 years olds may stink at 18, no one knows. There is no secret route or everyone would follow it, so the top prospects may come from a top team like the Chicago Mission but can easily come from a Dallas, Iowa, Florida, etc..

I hope your Kieran Brown is one of those diamonds in the rough, nothing better than the game thriving in different countries.

Not sure why you're so touchy 3 min. As stated above just answering a question on the level of hockey. The past placement history of a lot of these programs, especially the ones from non-traditional hockey towns, is irrelevant to that particular question. I hope the kid does well. I think it's great to grow the game but given the thread headline it's better to be honest about what it is.

I'm not sure about this thread but he was certainly talked about on HF even before he was drafted into the OHL.

Very impressive. He can't be more than 13 years old, if that... Jeez, he could be a monster one day.

Huh? I first discovered him around 2012 through HFBoards, well before anyone in the media was talking about him. He wasn't hugely talked about, but I remember saying "holy ****" the first time I saw him, and immediately drew Crosby comparisons (not stylistic, but potential). I showed some footage to my dad, and he said the same thing.

Most people who follow this stuff were familiar with McDavid by 13-14.

And yes on the comment about bantam hockey in the US earlier. Iowa Wild is a fine program, the T1EHL is a very good league, you're just not getting the best of the best. Chicago's showcase recently and the October 01 Super Series in CT with Shattuck, Marlboros, Mission, Mid-Fairfield, and NJ Colonials are where you're seeing the kids who are really high-end today. Bantam stars aren't always NHL players and NHL players weren't always stars in Bantam. It's not a slight on Kieran Brown at all, who may have a very nice hockey career. He's playing in a league that's realistically full of 2nd-tier Bantam AAA programs and doing very well, but he's not a kid you can label a prodigy.

This thread was created in September 2008 so I just meant that Connor McDavid should have been mentioned around 2008-2009, maybe like 10-11 age range. Some of the names mentioned in this thread are super young and just figured since Connor is the real deal he might have been mentioned here sooner. On a sidenote what was Connor like at this age. Gretzky scored 378 goals as an 11 year old and can only imagine the points Connor put up as a youth player.

From a previous thread, his Peewee team went 31-0-2.156 GF,27 GA.
That's 4.73 GF/G and 0.82 GA/G.

Then

72 points in 33 games in the GTMMHL with the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA
209 points in 88 games in 'Midget' with the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA.

You'll notice that no one posted in this thread from 2009-2013 before it got bumped.

I'm sure plenty of people were talking about McDavid, just not in this thread.

Still dominating. 21gp, 36g/16a/52p. First in league scoring by a significant margin and his team is undefeated.

My first impressions of Seth Jarvis is that he looks good. Great skill, good edges. Would love to see him move the puck more considering the puck is on his stick most of the time but other than that it will be interesting to see how he develops.

Unfortunately it looks like they charge to watch the Quebec PeeWee Tournament which starts this week.

Link for those interested.

ETA: I'll be following the 10 yo. Also, there will be an all-girls team for (I believe) the first time.
