I hear you there. Backes and Nordstrom shouldn’t be playing, period. I have no problems with this deal though, we’re a better team now and in the future for it.Well that's the issue, isn't it? They're a top 3 team again in this league right now, so young guys breaking through is going to be a lot harder than on a non-playoff team. They also have a glut of prospects, so they have the luxury of being more stringent on those guys.
I personally would just rather see a young guy given the chance to grow rather than non factors like Joakim Nordstrom and David Backes continually getting rolled out because they back check a little more fervently.

Right before Donato went down to the AHL I was hoping he’d get sent down though. He really wasn’t a good option. Hopefully getting another wing will force Backes and Nordstrom off the roster when Pastrnak is healthy.
Good on Donato to get his comments in before the Bruins, he's no dummy he knows how they operate when players leave.
Yes, that's exactly it. And they aren't wrong. Big difference being able to work through struggles when your defensive game is still good.Exactly. And what was the difference between Donato and Heinen? Heinen played a better 200 foot game.
Could they have kept him in the AHL all year and maybe he’d be ready for the NHL next year? Sure, but then you wouldn’t get Coyle who helps now. I think we disagree on whether Donato should be in the NHL right now or not. I think he was pretty aweful in his last stretch and needed time in the minors anyway.I'm with you in that I'm fine with this deal because it makes them better today. I just think that they could do a better job overall as an organization on handling some of their assets.
Which I don't find to be a hyperbolic statement, but apparently some here do, given the reaction it got?
Already started. Rumors and whispers have been out that Teddy was bothering Neely and Sweeney and calling all the time. That along with the story of his agent being a hard ass and signing a 2 year instead of 3 year deal, and how he'd be a difficult resign after he hits RFA status, and other guys organizationally had already passed him by. All that already floated out to the media well before RD played last night.
You have to give Heinen credit too, he scored 48 points as a rookie while playing great two way hockey. I’m pretty sure that’s the best offensive season from a rookie since Samsonov. If Donato was putting up that many points he’d probably still be in Boston.Yes, that's exactly it. And they aren't wrong. Big difference being able to work through struggles when your defensive game is still good.
Donato gives them NOTHING if he's not scoring, and he wasn't.
He sucked, they sent him down after a month. Recalled him, still sucked, and sent him down again. Let's not act like he got a raw deal by giving him 5 games or something and then benching/sending him down and not giving him a chance again.
I get not every player is going to be an elite 200 foot player. That's unrealistic. I certainly don't think the organizaiton expects that either. However, they do expect an honest effort in all three zones, and that goes for EVERY player on the roster, both young guys and vets. Donato never showed that.
Going to Providence was his chance to embrace becoming a more complete player, because let's be honest, they weren't sending him down to work on his offense. If he was smart, he would have focused on the away from the puck stuff. Clearly didn't care to do so, whined about it, and poof traded.
Truly hope he figures it out, I do. But complaining that he "deserved" to be called up reeks of entitlement.

oh no is this true?
Player Discussion - Ryan Donato
Sad at the waffling once a player doesn't wear the black and gold anymore.
Lots of criticism of Donato’s game in that thread, way before he was traded.Player Discussion - Ryan Donato

Also this Pastrnak getting loaned example that keeps getting brought up...that's a stretch.
Pastrnak was 18 playing his first pro season of hockey, as well as his first NA season. Donato is almost 23 in his second pro season, who also played 3 years of college prior. Not sure those are comparible.
Yep. Heard it on the radio on the ride home the last 2 days.
Bruins are the tightest team in the NHL when it comes to keep trade talks secret...when it comes to "leaking" stuff on players out the door, woof, champions.

How can Donato say he wasn't given a fair shake? he got 46 games over a season and a half with the big club. That's more than a cup of coffee. And he was gifted a freaking spot out of camp even though there were 2-3 players that deserved it more.He clearly went down to Providence with a bad attitude this last time. Played like he didn't give a ****, clearly.
But, and this is why I said it's an organizational issue. Is he the first guy in the near recent past to feel like he wasn't given a fair shake? Is he the first guy to say the team basically didn't let him play his game? I mean ****, Cehlarik basically mirrored this earlier this season. Ryan Spooner was on this track as well. Koko left in a huff because of it. And the beat goes on...
I looked at his hockeydb page within the last week and I remember thinking that’s weird, he hasn’t been doing anything in Providence lately. That might have had something to do with it.He clearly went down to Providence with a bad attitude this last time. Played like he didn't give a ****, clearly.

The last page is mostly criticism and saying how bad Donato looks. Let’s not pretend everyone was just in love with Donato until he was traded lol.Doesn't seem like a group of people willing to deal him after 46 games either.
