Given the flyers makeup cooter has tremendous value to the flyers. His production and salary only increase this. Tkachuk or monahan would then start a conversation about the pieces from the op. There'd be flyers fans who turned down johnny hockey though im not one of them. He's just not a guy we're in a position to move
That’s pretty understandable, that contract is just obscene, maybe the best in the NHL. Even if he was just a 40 point guy, with his great defensive game, it’s still a good contract. You factor in his new found offensive game and he’s extremely valuable.

This point cannot continue to go overlooked. There are 224 players in the NHL with a higher Cap hit than Couturier which means that he's the 7th or 8th highest paid player on any given roster but on most teams he is the 1st or 2nd best player. That kind of value is unheard of.

And that was Hextall signing him and Ghost to their contracts. Another thing overlooked by some fans.

Couts is not moving. However start with Tkachuk and add from there. That is how good Couts is.
I couldn’t really imagine there being an add. There’s a lot to be said for being 5 years younger and already matching Couturier’s best season, with Backlund as a centre. Probably even more than the potential cap deferential. It probably would take that caliber of player to make Philly think about it though. Tkachuk-Giroux would be a filthy combination. Definitely wouldn’t be ideal from a Flyers cap perspective and from the Flames we’d immediately be in the LW market.

You mean the guy who was 26 and had never showed any signs of being elite?

You really want to compare him to the best CHL goalie the last 20 years...possibly ever?

Dumb.
 Not as dumb as this statement. Wow, some posts in this thread are just mind boggling ridiculous!

Lots. You're saying Carter Hart is a better prospect at his age than Price was? Really?

It could be easily argued, given Harts stats and achievements in junior. Theres also this:

So yes, at the same age, Hart is doing better (statistically) than Price.

How is it dumb to suggest that the only goalie to ever win the CHL goalie of the year twice is the best CHL goalie of the past 20 years? Even if you disagree, how is it MORE dumb than comparing him to a 26, undrafted goalie who not only never played in the CHL but was playing Junior B in his draft and draft +1 seasons? Anyone with a set of eyes and an internet connection could have predicted the downfall of Hammond. Comparing him to Hart is more extreme than comparing someone like Peter Prucha to Elias Pettersson.

Sure it could. HF where a guy who might end up as good as Carey Price is better than Carey Price. This place is hilarious at times.

Hart hasn’t really been given the same spotlight as Price in their junior time. It would take a very long google search to find who’s been better than Hart in the WHL in a long time. Price was nowhere near Hart in stats and accolades.

Price:

That doesn’t mean we’re alrwady touting Hart > Price... not at all. What he’s done so far has been more impressive because the stats don’t really lie. During his time in the NHL (for the first 15-17 games he’s played), there hasn’t been a goaltender that’s face more HDO shots... which is pretty crazy because you’d think they try to help out the young goalie as much as possible.

Couturier is a great player, and I would kill to have him on the flames. Certainly not at the expense of Tkachuk (who is younger, puts up slightly more points, and has as good or better possession and defensive metrics), but I would move many pieces if he were available. Someone above suggested Monahan... I would entertain that as a 1-1 but wouldn't add, and I can understand why philly fans don't think that is enough.

Not sure where the Carter Hart debate came in. That guy is also gold and it seems the flyers have finally found a suitable goal tender! Another thing that the flames can be jealous of.

Might want to reword that.

I think he meant only goalie to win CHL Goalie of the year twice, and WHL goalie of the year three times... And, frankly, he actually had his best year the year they didn't give him the CHL award. It's not ridiculous to say that Hart comes in with Jr. stats/credentials comparable to Price, and per Appleyard's tweet, is putting up solid rookie year numbers too. We'll see if he can be as good over a long career. Knock wood.

He has like 15 games left to play. Maybe wait until their seasons are over

There isn't much difference in a 41 game sample size and a 27 game sample size.

Both are too small to project a career over (which, for the record, no one has tried to do), but still in the same territory of 'similar'. I do not believe the numbers are era adjusted, either.

Looking at just the numbers, 2 piss poor games could really hammer your stats. Either way he is a great prospect and hopefully plans put, but we've seen it a before, especially with goalies

Flames cannot afford the cost to bring on a player like Couturier. That said...

I'd offer Valimaki + 2019 1st + Bennett + Another prospect of the Flyers choosing. Then cross my fingers and hope for some reason they are tired of having him on the team.

Couturier is as valuable as anyone in the league to be honest. He seems to get better offensively every year, too. He’s like a less streaky Kopitar.

The original argument was "what has Hart sone to prove hes worth of the same hype as Price?".

Combine his early NHL starts and superior Junior stats and it's very easy to argue hes as deserving of the hype, even if you dont necessarily share the opinion.

Not once did I say Hart will be as good, or better than Price.
