This. When I was kid I played with short stick and it is quite easier.

There is big advantage for defender to have long stick when poke checking and blocking shots but with winger not so much, Laine must have long stick purely because that shot

Its obviously because longer distance to the bench, sometimes some teams suffer that. Usually they are teams with high cycling and short shifts, if teams plays with system which wears out/high energy (with trap) they wont get changes fast enough vs 1st and 3rd period where distance is shorter to the bench.

High possession teams benefit from that distance instead
