Until this very day, I do not understand why the NFL is so popular in both Cincy and Cleveland; just an outsider, asking.

Well, here's a few thoughts: the NFL started in Ohio, the Browns were very successful when the league first began to grow in popularity, and the Bengals were started and owned by an Ohio football icon, Paul Brown. Not to mention that high school football is a religion in many parts of the state and college football at places as diverse as Ohio State and Mount Union compete for national titles.

Question for people who know what they're talking about:

I've seen that the 2022 World Cup could be moved to the States. Any chance Columbus gets to host a few games? I know US Soccer likes to hsot games here.

I know Crew Stadium is way too small as is but maybe Ohio Stadium?

I know Columbus wasn't among the sites submitted when the U.S. put its original bid in for the 2022 World Cup, which it lost.
Indianapolis was the closest site on the list of 12-16 cities.

Buuuuuut, I've seen it speculated that given Columbus' significance to U.S. soccer and the age of Crew Stadium that maybe a 2022 World Cup would spur the creation of a new stadium.

Obviously at lot of big ifs there ...
If the U.S. were to swipe the World Cup from Qatar.
If Columbus would be willing/able to get a new stadium built (debatable since this would likely involve public funds and we know how local folks feel about that issue ...)
If that would even be enough to bump larger cities off that list.
If any of this could even happen in the next 8 years.

Fun to imagine purely as a sports fan.

Not sure Ohio Stadium would fit. I believe I read somewhere that there is a field width requirement that some stadiums (The Big House being another) may not meet.

I know more about Curling than Soccer but one thing I do know the width of a Soccer field is huge compared with American Football... As for Columbus, they have more high end hotel capacity than before which may help if a new bid is put forth..

Ohio Stadium absolutely is not an option. The Crew started there before their stadium was built way back when, and this was before the field was lowered and stands filled in. So before the 2000 renovations, the field was still technically "too narrow" but the MLS allowed it for a year or two if my memory is correct.

Michigan Stadium is hosting Man U & ???? (or is it Barcelona?) for a "friendly" later this year.

Old casino site in the western part of the A.D. = most likely area for bigger, soccer-specific stadium.

Also, Columbus has been dominating the television ratings among U.S. markets.

the italian in me is PISSED that a) Godin wasn't sent off vs England meaning he wasn't on the pitch to score and b) Suarez gets away with biting again...

*now I will add the caveat that if Chiellini isn't the epitome of Italian Grass Diving, he probably gets that call from the ref...

Thanks for the NFL history lesson; that indeed cements the league's reputation as a Midwest institution, especially when I previously met Packers fans in real life in Los Angeles, let alone California, of all places.

Lebronaukah Part 2 is happening.

As long as he doesn't wind up with the Knicks or leave Miami, I'm okay with it.

The Decision: Part Deux. Where will he take his talents this time? I hate the NBA, nothing but showboaters.

He will stay; besides, that Miami nWo got unfinished business...4 LIFE! :naughty:

Whoa. How did a Packers rube from the midwest figure out how to get all the way out to LA, let alone California? He hitch a ride with Uncle Jed?

God I love this line.

2. God I love this line.

1. It was back in high school when I met a substitute English language teacher who happened to be a native Wisconsinite and, from there, introduced me to the Green Bay Packers. Never mind the fact I even saw Cheeseheads in San Francisco last year (2013). :D

2. Unfortunately, the late Howard Cosell's statement, "The Bronx is burning" overshadowed the Knicks' NBA titles, as both events happened in the same decade.

According to Insane Troll Logic, if the Knicks would win an NBA Title, then The Bronx would end up burning in the same decade. :shakehead

By the way, I'm a Yankee fan.

The #Cavs might have a higher percentage of Ontario-born players on their roster than the Maple Leafs.

Of course, obviously false. And the phrase preceding it, profoundly uninteresting. Take your attitude somewhere else why don't you

"Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was arrested for DWI in Raleigh, N.C., on Friday night, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports."

What a waste.
