I know teams sell expiring assets at the deadline, but it is funny you traded Gavrikov for this pick and now in an ideal trade for this pick you would want someone like Gavrikov in return
Not really funny... they wanted him but he wanted more term than CBJ was willing to give. He'd be a great fit still. Just the way it goes with pending UFAs that want to test the market or want more than the team is willing to give (term or money - for CBJ it was apparently term)

What defenseman could the Jackets get by trading this pick away? FYI, we would prefer a shutdown D over an offensive minded D.

Romanov went last year for 13OA, who might be available in 2023?

Current CBJ blue-line:

Werenski LHD Boqvist RHD
Bean LHD Jiricek RHD
Peeke RHD Gudbranson RHD
Blankenburg RHD
Gavrikov

It's an awkward place to be picking, when it comes to gauging the pick's value on trade markets. Would it land a high-end veteran who contributes immediately as a No., 1-3? Probably not. Does it return a really promising young D, with many years of service remaining? Probably not. It attracts a lot of offers containing overpaid players about which the trade has the whiff of a cap-related move (e.g., OEL).

Picking at that range, I think it is probably best to trust your own amateur scouts and use the pick.

columbus is picking 3rd in this years draft and they don't have bona fide 1st line center. why would they trade away a first round pick to move into playoff contention?

if carlsson (their likely pick at #3) becomes the needed first line center you can think about moving out futures for win now pieces. but right now this seems like a plan to remain mediocre for the foreseeable future.

Because we have a backlog of prospects and not enough spots if they all develop. Best to move picks/prospects while they hold value to push some chips in to allow this core to compete sooner rather than later. We need to be competitive by the time guys like Jiricek, Johnson and Carlsson(or whoever this 3rd OA pick is), and not counting on them to be the reason we are competitive. Which means we need to shore up our D and goaltending. This pick likely won't be NHL ready for a minimum of 2+ seasons. Why not take our plethora of picks and prospects and help the team now.

Did you see CBJs D lineup from last season? That's a much bigger need than keeping our prospect pool at the top.

Thanks for sharing. Not looking for high-event darlings.
No problem if you are not interested in Harris, but he's the opposite of a "high-event darling".

Harris plays a quiet, smart, and effective game. He's still learning and growing as a player, and would only be available because of the depth of prospects Montreal has on the left side.

Montreal needs young RHD, so if Columbus has excess maybe a minor deal could be made without involving 22OA.

Sharks would probably move Mario Ferraro + like a 3rd rounder for this pick. Similar to the Romanov trade from last year.

Because they’d target a longterm solution?

Columbus has one of the best prospect pools in the league with Werenski/Gaudreau/Laine in their primes. They aren’t far away from becoming a legit team and should exactly start to move from drafting to adding quality proven players.

They aren’t where Chicago/Anaheim/San Jose are. You don’t have to be garbage for 10 years in this league

Rangers should sell high on Lindgren, 1 yr 3 per
cap is very tight but they can extend KAM + bridge LaF as is, but still every little bit helps.
Would force them to showcase Jones if he is ready
and then commit to elcs Robertson + Scanlin,
Harper + Mikkola reinforce

Another thread had discussion of Lindgren + to Sabes for 13OA +

If we don't get a better offer for a slightly better pick,
since CBJ other pick is 3OA and thus not applicable,

would Jackets consider
2023 2nd
2024 1st top 7 only protected

for

Lindgren
Avs 2023 3rd
NYR 2024 3rd

thoughts?????

Boqvist for Sandin would’ve been a good swap before he went to Washington. Imo Boqvist should go and from both teams POVs I’d do Boqvist and LAK 1st for Arbor Xhajak. His talent set is so rare he’s worth a premium and Boqvist steps into the top PP role and the get a 1st in a deep draft.

Jordan Harris is your guy.
Romanov went the 13th last year. Harris isn’t as good as Romanov but he’s also younger and played really well last year. The type of defensemen you don’t worry about or notice.

He's looking mighty slow... I don't think that's a caliber of player you trade assets for to lock up.

Brendan Dillon from the Jets

Would the Jets part with him for like a pair of 3rds? He's not a primary target but would make a decent backup option if the price is right.

Sharks would probably move Mario Ferraro + like a 3rd rounder for this pick. Similar to the Romanov trade from last year.

I don't think there'd be much interest in Ferraro, his experience level is too much like a lot of the young D we have (Peeke, Boqvist, etc...) and he's had a rough year. We're not looking to gamble on a young player breaking out, we want something more solid.

I highly doubt the Jackets touch the 2024 1st. For KAM they would and then some but not for Lindgren. They would love to add Lindgren though, I think the 22nd OA + an ELC player (on the level of Foudy, Berni, etc... ) that can help the Rangers squeeze under the cap would be doable for the Jackets. Maybe a better player then those two actually, but I can't think of anyone who is above that but under Texier / Marchenko level (that level is not on the table).

Scott perunovich, torey krug.....

Let's make a deal

Wrong player type. Blues can keep their excess of offensive D.

Provorov, Hayes (45% retention) for Roslovic, Sillinger, the LAK 1 and the Calgary 3.

You'd be paying the Jackets to take players like that, they're not sending you assets for your problems.
