Thought Dumoulin had a strong game last night. Harrington looked solid as usual. Pouliot was a bit shaky defensively. Still, a lot to look forward to with these young defenseman. Harrington, in particular, has seamlessly taken on a larger role with Ehrhoff & Martin both going down.

Fleury is basically going toe-to-toe with him statistically right now, but last night's game added some separation. Fleury's numbers dropped slightly to a .932 SV% and 2.00 GAA while Rinne's improved to a .934 SV% and 1.84 GAA. Reputation is probably going to be the biggest factor because "Rinne is Rinne and Fleury is Fleury".

Exactly.

This is correct.

MAF could finish the season being #1 in all three main goalie categories and somehow still not win the Veniza.

Which is quite unfortunate since the Vezina is for the best goalie of this season. His past or reputation shouldn't have any impact but it likely will.

Since we're not likely gonna trade Letang, a Harrington-Letang duo moving forward makes a hell of a lot of sense. We have an excellent offensive PMD with a well rounded, reliable, high hockey IQ player. Occasionally Harrington can jump in the play but clearly he'd largely be the defensive conscience on that pair.

I thought Harrington had some troubles in his own end last night, but for his third game or whatever it is, he shows promise. It was interesting that MJ started giving Pouliot lots of ice time when the Pens went down 3-1, and it paid off on the PP. But that was offset by his shaky-ness in his own end. Again, that's not surprising given his lack of experience.

Tonight should be interesting. Two games against Florida was like a warmup for playing against a much more explosive team with no rest. Hate to start Fleury with no rest, but I don't think MJ will throw Zatkoff to the wolves tonight.

If anyone has MJ's e-mail address please send this to him. I just wonder who, what he was covering with all his experience. :handclap::handclap::handclap::handclap:

Scuderi is crap and I want him gone, but the Panthers are outnumbered there.

Besides, Fleury's been fantastic and looks like he's turned the corner, but those last two goals were awful.

The Panthers are outnumbered? In the picture yes but not in the play. Geno's watching from above like the lord himself. Scuderi is behind the net like a referee.

Scuderi for Norris!

I don't know what Scuderi is doing there, maybe he thought the puck was going behind the net, but the goal isn't his fault, the goal is on whoever those 2 pens players are right next to Hayes, Hayes should't be standing right next to net without somebody knocking him down or at least tie up his stick.

When Geno took the puck to the net and scored his goal you at least had somebody knock him down from Florida, pens did nothing at all to Hayes on that goal.

I'm sorry, I'm not buying this crap. As I've said this before: Pouliot has the potential to be a COMPLETE 200ft Dman who is very good defensively, and excellent offensively. If he't not at least very good defensively, that pretty much renders him a 3rd pairing guy/PP specialist, and he should be moved. But I, and I FIRMLY believer the Penguins management (and Johnston) believe he can be an effective defensive Dman. He was on the number 1 pair for the playoff run in Portland and, even more impressively, he was on the #1 pair at the WJCs, getting the toughest minutes against the best competition.

No, I don't expect to be as good as Letang or Maatta or Harrington defensively, but he need to be at least very, very good (and easily a top 4 defensively by any team's standards). I think he can get there. The thing that will get him there -- which most fans won't like however -- is not only the rest of this year in WBS, but likely (minus a few call ups) all of next season in WBS, as well.

People want their new toy now. It's short sighted and it's not in the best interest of the long term development of players. Erhrhoff should be retained (with Scuderi and Martin traded), Maatta and Despres should get more offensive/PP opportunities along with Ehrhoff next season, and Pouliot should spend another year in the AHL.

I guarantee you: give him 2 or 3 seasons in the AHL, and the end result will be a Dman who is VERY, VERY good in the defensive zone. The hockey sense is there, but the experience and strength are not. Those cannot be rushed, they have to develop with time. There's simply no other way, sorry.

This. I have no problem with him being up when we need him but when we are healthy enough he should be in WBS. He has already said how much Nas has helped him, why forgo that for a little instant gratification.

-Scuderi. In general, I think he's been a lot better than last year, so I haven't felt the need to complain. But he is absolutely the wrong person to pair with Pouliot. I know MJ probably thinks that the pairing will cover up for DP's defensive lapses but, in my opinion, it's putting him in way more vulnerable situations. Scuderi does absolutely nothing in the defensive zone but stand in front of the net and flub passes. I feel like Pouliot sent a couple passes Scuderi's way that he just completely missed, and then let a Panther's player get the puck while he retreated to the front of the net. And every pass he sends is in someone's feet.

And then in the offensive zone, it's tough to get much going when all Scuderi does is weakly dump the puck in the corner literally every time he has the puck. I'd like to see Pouliot with someone that has SOME offensive talent so he can actually maximize his offensive ability, instead of trying to cover up for Scuderi.

Other than that, I can't complain about getting a point while having only ten forwards for a decent chunk of the game.

Nice to see others praising Rob Scuderi's play. Early in the season he looked slow and easily beatable but has lately began looking like "The Piece" we all knew and loved before he jumped to the Kings.

Uh...

He was horrible last night and recently, he was much better at the start of the season.

Only Letang got more minutes on D last night, so Mike Johnston and the rest of the coaching staff are leaning on him more during these times of pestilence.

Him being used more doesn't mean he's performing well. He was really bad yesterday.

Well ya, because he's the only vet on defense aside from Letang left standing.

Despres aside, the rest of the young blueliners have a combined 11 games of NHL experience.

Didn't I say that? Also, what does that say about the shaky confidence the coaching staff has in message board messiah Despres?
