Reimer makes $3.1 mil next season. Darling's buyout would have cost ~$1.18 mil. Effectively, they'll pay him ~$1.92 mil next season, presumably to be the backup?

If things don't go well next season, Carolina can buy him out at a cost of ~$2.82 mil over 2 years. That would bring the cost to ~$5.93 mil over 3 years. Darling's buyout is worth $4.73 mil over 4 years.

They're making a small gamble on Reimer and keeping the books cleaner for Svechnikov's extension in 2 years and Necas' in 3.

Good trade for the Canes. Good for the Panthers in the sense this likely confirms that they got Bob

Um what...? How does this make it easier for Florida to make cap space for the free agents they're signing? I feel so confused that I'm literally questioning my IQ/size of my noggin here.

Reimer hasn't dropped below .900 in his career but he hasn't played more than 44 games. We pay a little more to have a usable goalie and we're still trying to get Mrazek or Varlamov.

I'm ok about this.

You have 1 NHL goalie signed and that's Reimer. He will be your backup and they will sign a starter. It really isn't that hard to figure out.

You seem like a nice guy.

We also have Alex Nedeljkovic, the ahl goalie of the year, signed and management has said he will get 10+ nhl games next year. Also qualified Forsberg, another nhl backup, after acquiring him. Have other goalies in the system ready to move up to the ahl as well.

A Reiner buyout would have actually saved FLA more dollars and more cap space this year. But they save a million next year with DArlings buyout.

So this was all penny pinching by FLA to save about 1M next year

They are AHL goalies at this point. Forsberg played almost as much time in the AHL as the NHL. As for Ned he can play 10 games if one of them get hurt. Again it is not hard when they aren't on the NHL roster. See post above mine that they may not even keep Reimer.
