It has been one long slump since we won the Cup. Basically two wasted years for our aging stars.

The metro is tight. 5 teams may make it out of the metro. It isn’t crazy to say they could miss them. And frankly the way the team is playing defense right now, I’m not sure it matters.

Exactly. Making the playoffs is the LEAST of this team's concerns.

I’m starting to think the team might just be washed. They’re the oldest team and they play like it. On their day, they can beat anybody but their days come fewer and far between now. Combine that with an average at best coaching staff and you get a team that probably should be 2nd-3rd in the Metro.

They still could find a way to the Final (i think they were pretty similar in 2018) but they will have to beat better teams.

Pathetic effort. One team has an effective PP plan, the other simply doesn’t. And our top-6 was utterly MIA. Oshie seemed to give puck away every time he touched it, Ovie gets outhustled for a goal by the kid he should’ve put through the boards a period earlier, and Backstrom and Kuz get owned all night long at the dot.

I’d dismiss the game as a stinker if our PP hadn’t been equally inept all year long now and if we hadn’t been badly outscored by Flyers in this season series.

Would be an entertaining playoff series between the two teams, for sure. The hate is real.

Caps deserved what they got tonight, which was jack****.

Lavi could have been perfect. He squeezes maximum out of a team within his typical 5 year tenure. This would have been enough to retire our stars and then start rebuilding.

We had plenty of good games under Oates too. And, frankly, we haven’t had many complete games since December. A game where all (or even most) cylinders were firing.

Another difference is that those very good games are now just a tiny dot in the rearview mirror.

This team has "tuned out coaching staff" written all over it. That is the biggest problem and it's fatal. Whether TR is a good coach, deserves the job, etc is irrelevant if he cannot get the players motivated and he can't get them playing to whatever system he is coaching.

Will say that I’m coming to the conclusion that Reirden probably sucks.

the defense is terrible but I think that’s more of case of the players themselves being terrible

but the way they move the puck is infuriating. They’re like a 13 year old playing FIFA with all the fancy one touch bs and passes to invisible players that directly lead to easy goals.

the game was under control even down 2-1 until Vrana throws the puck to nobody while falling down and sets up a goal for them. And this never changes. It happens every single period. That is something I don’t remember happening under Trotz. The pretty prissy bs one touch video game passes.

Couldn’t disagree more. For one thing, he does still hit. Picks his spots for sure, but Pens game was a good example of physical play. Fires up whole team. Further, he beautifully set up Kuz tonight for one of our best chances. And he’s durable as hell, on top of all that. He’s from the same mold as Maurice Richard. Goal scorer and intimidating to play against.
