I know Kempny isnt good but tonight some other dmen made some pretty big freaking mistakes on the ice. Lets face it Irwin is not ready
Yup. I thought Orlov was atrocious, thought Carlson was atrocious, thought Jensen was atrocious, and thought Schultz was atrocious. Honestly the inky guy I thought was halfway decent was Fever.

Just back from the game. Mantha was definitely the big positive tonight. He is throwing around his body more since he came back from his shoulder injury that i have seen the rest of his caps days. Really like that. Thought McMichael was good as well.

But our defense… all of them… stinky! VV gave up too many rebounds but there was no dee to collect. Schultz missed two point blank right in front of us. It is top six or bust on defense.

Jensen was picking himself up off the ice all night and a half step behind, Orlov had maybe his worst game of the season, and Carlson was… there. Kempny is done, like all the way done, and Schultz was about what you expect him to be but missed literally every chance he was given which was frustrating.

Just so bad

Well shit, who could've seen the D struggling and needing an injection of fortitude??

Lavi basically rolls 5 forwards because of how active the D are. I don't know if they forget how to defend or if it's just the fact that they're all basically PMD and not bangers. Puck protection has been awful. You can expect the D to cough it up behind the goal line several times per night.

That puts extra pressure on the forwards who have to collapse on defense or rotate high when the D pinch in the O-zone. That's when you get odd man rushes, or forwards just failing to clear the D zone because they're hemmed in with no outlet.

They're just going to have to start icing the puck if they can't play it out, until they figure out how to deal with it. Too often that turnover has become a scoring chance or goal against.

That was just a pathetic effort put forth last night. My knee jerk/pessimistic reaction is the team was deflated with the lack of TDL improvement as it’s as obvious to them as it is to most of us that this team just can’t compete in the east.

I'm disgusted with Carlson.

Guy's always been a lazy player but that was just over the top.

Giving up on a back check is not good but it's understandable. Giving up on defending a 1 on 2 is just ????

I’d love to be in the video room when that play is dissected.

Down right embarrassing lack of effort.

Lavi has no issue cracking down on rookies and bottom 6’ers……but come on dude. Carlson MUST step up his intensity….

Pathetic effort by 74. But this has been said for years. Can only be productive as a specialist at this point if his effort remains the same.

Not much of a fun game to have tickets to last night. For all the Carlson hate in this thread do we know his injury status? Benn had that cheap shot on him sunday night and he might not be 100%

Honestly if that’s the case though, it’s a failure on the coaching staff to not have him be the sitting 7th D and maybe just play him on the power play.

Why have your number 1 playing through something right now with the playoffs coming up? Especially if you’re dressing 7 D anyway

I think the Blues are just a terrible matchup for this Caps team - like Boston.

We usually don’t get the ice tilted against us for most the game - it was strange to see, since even when we’ve lost we’ve still been competitive and better at suppressing shots. I’m still baffled as to why Kempny plays over Irwin.

It’s just one game, the guys are human and quite banged up. Now they have a few days to rest and hopefully get an easy win against Buffalo.

So glad they wasted picks to bring back Johansson and instantly put him with Ovechkin. How many times has that failed before?

Atleast the Blue Jackets lost. I don't mind going into the Playoffs as the worst seed. Boom-or-bust mentality and if they lose we still get a solid pick. They have no reason to fight for an home-ice advantage either because we are the worst home-ice Playoff team by a mile and one of the better road teams.
