It was of course still a dumb play, but it's definitely not elbowing. Refs can't even get which call is which anymore.
The proper call is roughing. If they want it to be a major or minor or whatever, it was a roughing penalty. No elbow, no butt end, no intent to injure, no match. Gudas came in hot, Kane lifted his fist to protect himself and Gudas dipped down and punched Kanes fist with his head.
Gudas should have got a minor for roughing Kanes glove. We've got to protect the players gloves, those things are expensive.
Here is an example of butt-ending

Please show me where Kane has his stick out like these guys. His tape is white and glove black so it should be super obvious.
Even if he did contact Gudas with his stick, to me it is not like these examples of a butt-end. If they say he hit him with the glove in the head and that's not allowed fine, but this is not a butt-end.
Crosby is such a drama queen...
In the case of Kane, his butt end wouldn't be out on that play, it was too quick. Most high end skill players put the butt end in their palm and work the stick like a stick shift as opposed to having it stick out the bottom of their fist.
I’ll be surprised if Kaner gets nothing from that play.
Oh you know they're going to throw the book at him. They want to get attention on something other than their abusive, racist coaches... By over reacting to the black hockey player.
