Samsonov might get traded to Colorado in the offseason if he continues to let the Van steal his job like that. Bite down on your mouthpiece, baby Sam, you really don't want that KHL travel back.

This will only happen if VV continues to have games where he cannot stop a beachball, like last night.

I do not call it 'led'. I'd say: Holtby plugged the Caps to the Cup.

Good lord you are a bad take machine.

.922 save%
2.16 GAA
2 shutouts
16-7 record
14 quality starts
3 bad starts

In a lebesgue way a finite or continuum time bad take machine is a good take machine overall if it is good in it hockey sense.

Stanley Cup plug with 16 wins? No contradiction here for me. .922% is awful for winning team goalie. Normaly it is more around .940%

Yea im the first one to tell you that Holtby is not a good goalie. But that 2018 playoff run was definitely his best one. For once he was not letting in bad back breaking goals at bad times of the game. So gotta give credit where its due. He was definitely solid and big reason why Caps won that year.

They were never going to let Holtby walk immediately after he backstopped them to a Stanley Cup (especially when Grubauer was given the chance first and Holtby took the job from him), and when Holtby still had term on his contract. Picking Grubauer over Holtby was never a real option, and keeping both goalies at that point was pretty untenable from both a salary cap and asset management standpoint. Letting Grubby find his groove as the undisputed starter elsewhere while also clearing out Orpik's $5.5M contract and getting assets in return was a win-win move for the Capitals and Grubauer.

Nah. Save % that high is the exception, not the rule.

Ranking All Stanley Cup Winning Goalies Since 2000

Nice graph, though. I like how 2013 and 2018 are basically the same data but one is "Vezina" and the other is "PLUG".

It's clear that there are a lot of Caps fans now in the world who waited all of 5, 10, or may 15 years for a Cup. They will simply never understand so probably just best save your breath. (Side note: my Hawaii-raised, non-sports husband cried like a baby that night in Vegas. He'd been part of our family long enough that he knew... Especially because my dad didn't live to see it.)
