Let’s say it was 10, or 12, or 15, or 20.....it’s probably the lack of effort and work ethic that just got him waived, not the exact lbs he came into camp at right?

The weight thing is such low hanging fruit, there's 0 evidence it's actually impacted his play.

Last season he played 75 games and has 7 G and 9 A. This year, where he's supposedly "30lbs over weight" he has 4G and 4A in 54GP. If he kept with his current pace he would finish with 11 points.

We're really going to sit here and act like 5pts is the difference between you loving him and him being "30lbs overweight".

I truly believe either you guys didn't watch him last season or you have selective memories.

I doubt they called Jaskin and sent DSP down because Jaskin is getting traded. Jaskin is just better then DSP this year, though it is odd that Reirden doesn't seem to think so.

I do think they're setting up two trades. I figure one of Burakovsky or Bowey isn't on the team after the TDL. I do wonder who/what they'd be targeting. Sounds like a 2nd/3rd liner and another Kemp/dumpster dive D-Man.

Could be as simple as knowing he wouldn’t make it to said GM’s waiver spot.

Good point. But no one wanted him 4 months ago. I got it - he looks great on our team, because he is the only one busting his hump, so he stands out. Just like he does to our own fans.

They came to scout Burky, and found Jaskin instead.

If I sucked at my job and a coworker described me as "garbage" I guess I'd have to deal with it and take a look at my performance.
Lucky for DSP none of his coworkers have describe him as that, they've all said he's a great coworker. Some irrelevant message board posters though? Well, they may have labeled him as one.

I have a feeling if you were beloved in your work place but some schmucks who you never met told you "you're garbage" because of your work you would likely not be as receptive to the feedback.

I’d love to read some quotes from his co-workers from this season, praising him. Would really solidify things to read those. I’ll wait.

Ok...sorry the word "garbage" is too harsh for you. I really am sorry. He has not been a productive member of the Washington Capitals hockey team this season and if he is no longer a part of the organization I am ok with that. Better?

The GM that offered something for Jaskin, after hearing the news we tried to release him....

giphy.gif

It seemed unlikely Jaskin would pass through waivers, if you're a team on the bottom end of the waivers claim list you might want to make a move. It's not unusually for GM's to shop a guy around with the clear implication that they're going onto waivers if no one bites. It's essentially a "who wants priority?".

And sometimes you roll the dice because no one is willing to make a trade but they're willing to put in a claim if he makes it all the way to them on waivers. (Like how we got Jaskin).

This would be pretty funny though if we end up trading him to STL.

I mean give it a few hours and there will likely be an entire locker room full of them when the media gets in and asks them all about the move...

but sweet attempt at a burn?

It doesn't sound as much as we're making moves as much as them just trying to stay available.

I think DSP coming into camp overweight was a pretty significant deal. Literally every other player that was on the SC team came back in shape and ready to go.

While everyone has looked fatigued throughout the year, DSP has been pretty abysmal. Guys are pretty adamant that coming into camp in shape is a big deal to set up success for the rest of the year.

I’m not going to lose sleep over losing DSP (if that even happens). Thank you for your amazing playoff contributions and you forever will be apart of Capitals history.

Cool, I’ll be waiting for all the affirmations that he’s been awesome this year.

I’d be disappointed if there weren’t some “he was a big part of our run last year and hopefully he makes it back” comments that’s for sure.

I think they go for a top-9 F and a FO specialist for the 4th line. Hence "a lot of moving parts", I don't see 1 for 1 trades that would make sense for the Caps. Something like a prospect+a pick+a fringe roster player for a top-9 guy and prospect+pick for 4th line C.

Who said he's played awesome this year? All the quotes will be about how awesome of a locker room guy he is and how big he was last year.

Literally every one on this board is saying this is a necessary move, myself included, umbrage is taken with calling a guy who gave us everything last year "garbage" and acting like him not having a great season is a personal slight to you.

Players should NEVER EVER take discounts when negotiating. It’s not worth it unless you’ve already secured your bag earlier in your career.

Having said all that, he’s not very good and the team can certainly upgrade.

He’s a legend in the city and especially to the black community. Proud to see one of our own being such a difference maker during the biggest moments.

plausible explanation

Caps pursuing pick or prospect for forward -> waive last guy who they determine to be Jaskin -> get offer for Jaskin -> penultimate guy on 23 was DSP

otherwise why put the cart before the horse

The conversation has clearly soared above your cognitive abilities. I think only one guy said he was garbage and it wasn’t me. Seek inner calm Francis before you wet yourself with indignation.

Depends on what type of deal we're talking about. Kucherov definitely took a discount last summer and signed for 9.5X8, he could have easily gotten 11 and taxes doesn't matter when you take into account a market value which was higher that 9.5. Not even talking about his 4.7x3 bridge. Same with Stamkos. But nonetheless they have become very rich. It's the players like DSP who should go for the money at every opportunity because they barely keeping themselves in the NHL.

You're correct, your analysis of the situation was fair and balanced and always anchored in maturity and respect.

ENJOY MENSA

I’m saying don’t come whining about a “kick in the teeth” if you man the Krispy Kreme line better than your winger spot. Boo ****ing hoo.

You must be drinking early. “Entitlement”. GTFO here with your nonsense. Dude came into camp fat and lazy and has done nothing since. He’s giving his own job away. Take issue with the player, not fans making real observations.

Nobody is pissy, but you since you’re sure carrying a ****ing candle. It’s up to DSP to hold onto his own job. You can continue playing indignant...
