Pre-game scouting report must have ID'd that specific pass to the high slot as a weakness to exploit. Tried to two rushes in a row.

Djoos had 12 mins of TOI last game? I think it shows Orpik still has a big load, especially at PK.
Changing Orpik to similar type of player (we need veteran, defensive specialist) but cheaper and better... Kinda screams offseason.

Schimdt is already the top ice time leader on a 1st place team...
He's playing a little over his head there, currently. Is definitely better suited on a 2nd pairing, although his overall play has improved since they switched from Sbisa to McNabb as his partner. Either way, you're correct in insinuating he has a pretty significant head start when compared to Djoos.

Caps are the only team this year that have been able to make the Devils look this bad...twice. Great team, so positionally sound with great chemistry.

If they keep Carlson, I don't really see the need for an additional "veteran" D man as a specific need. If the core guys aren't ready to step up as the veteran leadership at this point, there's something rotten on the team. I don't disagree that they'll need a LHD who can PK and handle D zone starts, but the age shouldn't really matter. Carlson and Nisky should be able to handle the leadership duties for the blueline.

Nobody knew where to be on that play. Sometimes when you shuffle your lines and pairings that's going to happen.

Orpik did not look like a defensive specialist on that goal.

They have Bowey as 3RD probably and Djoos-Bowey doesn't sound good. So it's some guy plus Bowey as 3rd pair. Maybe it's good if that 3LD guy is capable. But I want better player to boost D ranks.

Imagine Johansen being ready. What they do? Johansen-Bowey? Kinda meh.

EDIT: Meant veteran in a sense of not being rookie. Like Niskanen was when he signed with Caps. But getting good enough player at that age... can't be cheap, right? Or is he good enough then? Not that easy to get space and upgrade Orpik simultaneously.
