Oilers Team Scope
The Oilers come into Monday's game winners of four of their last five games after a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Edmonton was spurred on by a dominant performance by their Dynamic Duo of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. The pairing both recorded four points each on the evening, marking the ninth time they have both recorded at least four points in a game. McDavid and Draisaitl currently sit 1-2 atop the NHL scoring chart with 47 and 42 points respectively.
Stuart Skinner turned away 30 of 33 shots on the night to pick up his seventh victory of the young season.
The Oilers and Capitals are playing each other for the second time this year. Washington was propelled to a 5-4 victory back on November 7, courtesy of four powerplay goals on five opportunities. The Capitals were lead by goals from Connor Sheary and defenceman John Carlson, while Darcy Kuemper and Charlie Lindgren combined to make 31 saves on 35 Calgary shots. Kuemper left the game with an apparent injury and his status for Monday is currently unknown.
Calgary was backstopped to victory by Dan Vladar, who turned away 27 of 29 Capitals opportunities to pick up his fourth victory of the campaign. Andrew Mangiapane paced the Flames offence with a pair of goals while Mikael Backlund registered three assists on the evening.
Washington currently sits at 10-12-4 on a season in which they have been hampered by injuries. The Caps have seen significant game time missed by Niklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, John Carlson, TJ Oshie, Dimitri Orlov, Connor Brown, and more this year.
