So does this mean they have never won a 2-1 or 1-0 game in regulation or OT under Oates...a former NJ coach where such games seemed to be the norm?
Is that right?
Well it's true in the regular season. The Oatsitals have never won a regular season game when scoring 2 or fewer goals in regulation or OT. In the playoffs last year the Caps won twice with 2 or less, both in OT. So Oates has never won a game in regulation with 1 or 2 goals.
Meanwhile they've been beaten in regulation or OT by teams scoring 2 or fewer goals about a dozen times in the regular season, or roughly 1 out of every 10 games.
Contrast that with Hunter who took only 7 games to get his first 1-0 win, and had 5 wins in 60 games when scoring 2 or less, all in regulation.
