Didn’t realize Nico led the team in ice-time holy ****.

Dude is rock solid all the time, imagine when he fills out a little more.

Over on the main board a lot of praise is being heaped on Hall, much of it deserved. But I do take a bit of an exception that he's "Carrying the team"

I'd pretty much say Hall is carrying the team. If he's not "carrying" the team, he doing something as close as possible to "carrying" the team without "carrying" the team.

I dont dislike Zajac. Just hate his usage. Keep him off the PP and away from skilled players at even strength. He should be playing with Gibbons, Noesen, Coleman in a shutdown role.

This.

Zajac is not a bad player even at this age, but he should be used as a defensive specialist, something he's still really good at. But most of all, having 2 faceoff guys (Zajac & Boyle) with limited offensive skill on the same PP unit is completely baffling to me. I'd love to hear a reporter with balls ask Skeletor what the rationale is for that, just to understand his logic.

Kinkaid now 7-3-2 for all my central jersey area code peeps. its hilarious bleedred is damning people for defending him while posting paragraph after paragraph blasting a backup goalie. he has 16 out of 24 possible points. you seriously want pavelac as the backup?

Wood-Zacha-Palmieri had another dominant game. They are going to feast on bottom 6s once they get some puck luck

The only puck luck they need is Palmieri finding twine regularly again. He's been pretty dry, so he's definitely due for it.

I loved Wood and Zacha last night. To whomever dropped the "poor man's Kreider" line on Wood, I've been saying that for about a year now. Hell, if he finishes around 22G-18A-40P, I'll start calling him a lower middle class man's Simmonds.

LOL @ using wins to justify how good he’s been. As if he was one of the factors in last night’s win. He was one of the last guys we should praise for the win.

I hope you had a hearty breakfast. You’re gonna need it to replenish the calories you’ve used to defend this mediocre goaltender, which has basically been you’re only reason for showing up the last several days. What’s really hilarious is how you come here to defend him.

I just saw a “The Rangers are a bad team” thread on the mainboard. Why don’t you go rant about how much Lundqvist sucks and isn’t HOF worthy in it. I’ll get my popcorn ready.

Zacha hits iron and gets robbed pretty often as well. If/when he gets going, New Jersey is going to be very tough to stop

watched what i could of the game that was a huge gutsy win. devils were holding on by their fingernails at the end there.

stafford and hall both get breakaways they score by roofing the puck! they do this when players are chasing them down split second decision......yet in a shootout with all the time in the world everyone on this team fails to lift the puck. i never understand that. they always get so close in tight that they end up putting it into the goalies pad

I've always said that in the shootout you have to pretend like someone's chasing you or it doesn't feel like the real thing. Mentally you're not as into the shot as you can be because you're thinking "I've got all the time in the world." You honestly have to pretend like you're on a real breakaway.

Our goals for in Kinkaid’s wins is close to 4.5 goals.

I’m pretty sure 2013 Hedberg could have been at least NHL .500 if he got that kind of goal support.

devils had a bye week and i havent been by my computer so its damn near impossible posting from my phone on this site.

its not so much defending him as it is letting you know how ridiculous you get when you are fixated on players that have little impact on the devils success. you were railing a backup goalie for 13 starts on the seasons. its almost as insane as thinking it takes more than 2 calories to post on a message board but carry on with bashing the backup goalie every single chance you get (even in games he hasnt started)

also, these are the games that show nico is a step above most, if not all, other rookies. in terms of complete games. he just looks better and better.

hall needs to be in the MVP discussion as well.

I’m glad you feel this way. Since you agree that he has little impact on the Devils success, there’s no need to quote his win total again.

to be fair to him, the heat chart someone put out comparing kinkaid vs schneider shows that kink has a lot of dangerous near-goal charts. it could be the types of teams we play him against or something, but we seem to keep shots on schneider way out in the perimeter.

i'm with bleed in as much as kinkaid is really a boom/bust kind of guy in games. he lets in a lot of goals and needs to work on sealing himself to lower that GAA. i think he's fine as a backup, but 9/10 times i'll take schneider

Hall needs to move into the top 10 in scoring at a minimum to be in the conversation. If the season ended today, I think MacKinnon gets it and it really shouldn't be close.

Outstanding game from the Devils. Lets keep it up tomorrow. It will be tough to come out 3 times in a row with a strong winning mentality especially for a 1:00 game..

i agree he needs to move up in scoring tobe seriously in the discussion but i cant imagine the devils being anywhere near the playoff race without him.

it seems like the devils have fed off of his style of play. they were swarming last night and overwhelmed the capitals at certain points. the rooks have had a big impact as well.

wood has improved tenfold since last year also.

this is literally the cory vs marty thread argument all over again lol. “cory has better stats!” “brodeur gets more wins!” “he only gets more wins because of goal support!” etc etc etc

personally, I don’t care about goalie stats, at all. for either goalie, or any past or future goalies. they are only one notch above judging a player on +/-…it’s so subjective. for example, I would really only fault kinkaid on that second goal. the first was a ridiculous bounce, and the third the devils stopped skating for 5 minutes and couldn’t get a simple clear…even an icing. his stats won’t look great- 3 GA on 19 shots I think- but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

the only goalie stat I care about is wins. on any given night, cory gives us the better chance to get a win, so I’ll be quite relieved when he’s back in net next game. at the same time, kinkaid snapped our ugly losing streak against the isles, and snapped our capitals-specific streak last night. that’s literally all I want or expect from a backup.

the chicago game alone accounts for a goal per game in kinkaids wins. this is nothing like the marty vs cory debate. no one on here thinks kinkaid should be the starter (i hope)

cory was never a full time starter before the cory/marty season. marty was a top goalie of all time past his prime. completely different scenarios. i just cant believe someone would go on and on and on about a backupgoalie who has secured 16 out of 24 points and had some big wins (rangers, islanders, and capitals).

that third goal is not on keith either. that shot was released in high danger area and its a shooters wet dream to get a clean shot from there.

oh I know, let me rephrase- I just meant the whole goal support argument stemming from wins vs stats. that stuff is verbatim from the cory/marty threads
