Why in the hell would we be giving up picks for Holtby when we need to use those picks to stock the defensive pipeline. We also have Demko waiting in the wings. Just sit tight on the goalie situation, let Demko compete with Nilson in camp for the backup job.

Canucks can be a contender next season if they do some good moves. Trading for Holtby and signing guys like Tavares and having Pettersson and Dahlen join can transform the whole team completely.

Sure potentially. But JT won't come to Vancouver why would he join a rebuilding team when he wants to win like yesterday. Trading for Holtby is wasting assets for a guy that we would be moving on from in a few years when Demko is ready for the starters job. Besides, even if we got Holtby our defense isn't good enough to really make him shine. We would be better off staying the course, let JB use the picks at the draft and then fire his ass immediately after he gives some other UFA a stupid contract.

Canucks are better off using that cap space on taking on other teams bad contracts for a prospect or pick. Buying prospects/picks isn't the worst way you can go. Please take Horton.

Posts like this make me wish there was a emoji that looks like one of the little troll dolls with the crazy hair. Would come in handy frequently
Ok, explain why a GM would take a chance on a one dimensional D man who is always injured . This should be good.

I'm not disputing that he has injury concerns but since 2014-2015, Tanev has played 32 less games than Hamonic, 8 per season. That's a decent chunk of games he's missing but when he plays, he's an upper echelon shutdown d-man, Hamonic is not. Here is what you said:

"In no universe is Tanev better than Hamonic. Hamonic for one actually plays hockey and does not sit injured for most of every season. A GM might pay a 3rd for Tanev and take a chance that he can stay healthy enough to anchor 5-6 spot but probably not."

1. "actually plays hockey and does not sit injured for most of every season." -- The last 4 seasons, Tanev has played 70, 69, 53 and 42 games, that is 71% of the games he could have played so injured for MOST of the season would be incorrect.

2. "stay healthy enough to anchor a 5-6 spot" -- Tanev, when healthy, plays top pairing defense consistently. Not sure why a GM would be concerned about a guy that excels in the usage he gets in that role to the point that he would only count on him to hold down a 5 or 6 spot. That is extreme, extreme hyperbole.

3. "A GM might pay a 3rd for Tanev" -- He's a top pairing RHD signed through 19-20 for $4.45 million. That is absurdly cheap. People at the deadline were talking about how cheap Pacioretty's deal is for a 30 goal scorer (It's a very cheap contract) and you can get a top pairing defenseman for roughly the same price tag, that's a steal. A UFA 3rd line winger fetched a 3rd at this year's deadline (Maroon) so you're saying Tanev MIGHT have the same value? That's preposterous.

Why do Canuck fans try and hype Tanev as a top pairing D man? His numbers certainly don't support that. Name me even 5 teams besides the Canucks where he would be a top 5 D man?

Every team in the league, including the Flames where he would be playing on the top pairing.

...this is the same Tanev that team Canada was singing the praises of just a couple of years ago playing on the top pairing along side of Morgan Rielly and everyone was calling the best defensive d-man in the tournament, including the best player in the world McDavid...give your head a shake bud.

No, you just stop it. Hands up fans of other teams, would Tanev be on your top pairing?

Off the top of my head he is top pairing on...

Toronto ahead of Zaitsev
Detroit obviously
Chicago ahead of Seabrook easily
Philadelphia easily
NYI personal choice over Boychuk and certainly considering age
Vegas easily

He doesn't watch hockey and he calls himself a fan of a team.
