Weber did enough last year to deserve the contract. Actually deserved more time on the PP.
Wonder if he could team with Sbisa to form a Swiss duo. Maybe some National team experience together.
bad goalie can rest easy, Frankie won't be rushed.
No real reason to be upset with this deal i suppose, he's a depth guy and worst case you throw him back down to Utica.
But i really don't get what people here see in this guy. He's got plenty of issues, and no real strong suit. Small, gets pushed around a ton, is basically...serviceable at best defensively, doesn't really move the puck particularly well, and really isn't extraordinary or even anywhere near the calibre of PP QB you'd expect from a "PP Specialist".
I suppose the ability to waste some minutes as a "forward" as needed could be considered a "strong suit" if you really stretch it. Not exactly the strongest of traits though.
But whatever, nice enough guy, competes hard i guess. Good for him.

My understanding was the contract is a one way. So not likely to see Weber demoted.
How? Hamhuis, Tanev, Edler, Bieksa, Stanton, Sbisa. They're going to give him a chance. Unfortunately he'll be taking Stanton's ice-time when he gets that chance.

That being said, you did let go the best out of the three last season, Diaz is better than both.
Am I the only one who thinks for a "pp specialist" Weber isn't very good? Granted the entire power play was dreadful last year but he botched so many plays with low percentage passes it was annoying
Not mad at all about re-signing him as a 7/8 but don't see him taking anyone's spot
This is just wrong.
As someone who have followed both pretty closely since day 1, Sbisa is the better overall defenseman, they're just very different.
Sbisa has all the tools, his decision making is just pretty weak sometimes. His last season was horrible, but I loved the Sbisa from 2 years ago, attacking, fighting and hip-checking with confidence. If you can bring back that from, he's awesome for every team.
Weber isn't even more mobile than Sbisa, he just has a better blueline shot. He's worse defensively than Luca for sure.
Honestly, you can't really compare the two, so I'll let it by that.

Yeah he's a depth signing; can't complain at all about this signing. Why are people complaining about Weber being our PP specialist? It's not like they're choosing him over other/better options... he's all we have, sadly.
Not many teams willing to trade RH OFDs that aren't defensive liabilities.
That's true. Garrison played well on the right side not sure if Stanton or Sbisa can. I'd be fine with Weber, I think he's a solid OFD that rarely makes mistakes defensively. I would rather have Stanton in over Sbisa though, I think he's shown he can play and be a solid defenceman who is reliable.Stanton and Sbisa are both left D-men.
I can't imagine Sbisa can play his off-side when he already has trouble with turning and angles on his natural side.
We haven't really seen Stanton on the right. I guess there's a chance he might be okay at it, but I definitely wouldn't bet on it.
