You’re never gonna get me to believe that 0 goals in 17 and 10 goals total in 70 games for a #10 overall is great. Never.
Do you understand that a 17 game goalless streak and 10 goals in 70 games aren't meaningful measures of a player without examining usage, ice time, and how much of that production is at even strength?

Ovechkin had a 10 game goalless streak in 2017. Both Podzolkin and Ovechkin are busts.

podkholzin is fine. he is putting up kesler like rookie/sophomore numbers. he's slightly behind horvat rookie numbers. he's about the same as ryan o'reilly rookie/sophomore numbers.

he's not in the nhl as a sniper and neither are/were those guys. watching him he is quite obviously an nhl player and the only issue is scoring. equally obviously he is not the kind of high draft pick rookie who relies on flashy moves or a sniper wrist shot to be drafted high. he is the kind of high draft pick who will score his points when his game matures to the point he puts himself in position to physically impose himself to score.

there is a fair question whether a 2-way winger is as valuable as a 2-way centre. he's not a classic power score first winger, and if offence does not come for him on the wing, i think there is a good chance he gets converted to centre. but i have little doubt watching the guy he is responsible and smart enough to play centre. he'll be fine. either way.

at this point his floor is a very good middle six winger. his ceiling is a physically dominant first line player with excellent defensive skills.

As of right now, Podkolzin is a legit top-six forward for the Canucks. Look at the way Boudreau and the Canucks are using him?

Right now he's playing up and down the lineup and basically driving every line he's on. He's not getting rewarding yet with goals, but he's completely tilting the rink in the offensive zone whenever he's out there. And this is happening whether he's on the third line or the top line.

And with Boeser out for an undetermined period, his role becomes even more crucial for this team. He's had a extremely encouraging rookie season and is only scratching the surface of the player he'll eventually become.

He scores 2 goals vs the worst team in the league so you think anyone criticizing him is a loser? That's rich.

He's going to want $7m AAV... for a C who has 19 assists. Centers aren't supposed to have more goals than assists. He's great overall in the faceoff dot, but we can find a 3C faceoff specialist to replace Dickenson and play on the pk. He generates most of his offense off of turnovers in tight and pots goals off the rush as well, but he is consistently getting burnt on the wrong side of the puck. He's not a puck distributor by any stretch and doesn't make his line-mates better. People like to laud his supposed defensive instincts, but he's average to below average away form the puck and is part of our PK problem. He'll have a good game like this every once in a while and the fans go overboard with the captain stuff.

He is what he is at this point, he's not turning into Ryan Kesler. A more apt comparison might be a prime Brandon Sutter due to his tendency to be a shoot first C with low assist totals.
I got two words for ya.

Come on!!

I bet Podkolzin could hardly understand what the coaches and players were telling him at the beginning of the season. Then he went through a coaching change and had to learn a new HC.

He looked like a potential top 6 fixture when Hoglander/Pettersson/Podkolzin was a line under Boudreau. But I wouldn't be surprised if somebody like Klimovich puts up more goals since Podkolzin is not a typical sniping Russian.

For a while he was borderline doing it even while playing on a line with guys who shouldn't be in the NHL.

Podkolzin has hit another level, holy shit he is starting to demonstrate what his top end potential is.

Lockwood really is what 'Motte 2,0' would be.

A "good chance he gets converted to centre"? Based on what exactly? People have said this kind of stuff about Podkolzin but guys just don't get converted to center in the NHL.

And it's not a "fair question" whether a 2-way winger is as valuable as a 2-way center. It's not even close unless you're a complete outlier like Lehtinen or a few other guys.
