Please, please, please let the Burrows ROH and Sedin retirement nights go the same way. I won't ask for much more!

Fun game. But my oh my do LA's geezers look every bit as bad as you'd expect. And they've got most of those fossils on the books for years to come. Look for the Kings to scrape the bottom of the pond for the next five years. :)

There was never any doubt it was going to be Horvat... what a night!!!

Anyone know why Linden wasn't there? Seems weird as he lives in town.... maybe the breakup was worse than we thought?

I was thinking the same thing. I really hope there isn't bad blood there because he's meant so much to the franchise.

Weird how everyone now is saying what a night and blah blah blah.

Nobody saying anymore that “oh they should have just announced it in a press conference and be done with it”.

I don't mind the ceremony. Curious about the obvious exclusion. It was short enough not to try your patience and it was nice seeing some of the old faces again.

For the game...I only watched the first thanks to some late evening conference calls. Canucks got out to a lead. When it was 2-0 Markstrom came up with some big saves to not allow the Kings to get back into it. Then the horn sounded and I had to have awkward conversations with China and Japan.

I think what most people were thinking, myself included, why not announce it in a news conference but still have the on ice ceremony to formalize it? I mean, it was obviously no secret... Why try to make it one? The home opener was going to be a sell out crowd regardless, so it just seemed a bit unnecessary. But hey, it's not that big of a deal either way.

The "what a night" talk also stems from the first win of the season, the decisive 8 goals scored, Hughes first goal, our key acquisition Miller's big night, Pettersson putting his slow start behind him, etc. It was more than the ceremony, there were a lot of things to be happy about.

I can't be the only one who thought the Canucks were going to botch the ceremony but they did an outstanding job. Having some of the old guard out there with our starting lineup was so awesome to see. I was shocked to see Kearns, McClean looked legitimately awesome with the cage and skate jersey, and then Bertuzzi of all players receiving the most audible reaction from the crowd. That ceremony was awesome.

I think the only thing I would change would be to have Bo rip the jersey apart like a pro wrestler only to unveil a C jersey underneath.

I made my hfsportsbook bet on the Kings to win. Best $50K fake dollars I ever lost! JT Miller was in beast mode.

Those two cups though.
Paid the price for the success.
Mike Richards cost them Simmonds and Schenn.
Jeff Carter cost them Johnson and a 1st in 2013
Sekeras cost them McKeown and a 1st in 2016
Lucic cost them a 1st in 2015, Jones, and Miller
Bishop cost them Cernak.

Combine that with some bad signings in Brown, Gaborik and you have what you have.

When you front load contracts to players and they decline as they age, then it's not likely a contending team wants to acquire them unless there is retention. But, some of those guys like Quick and Carter have term on their deals. Less incentive to take that on.

So, they are stuck. Since winning their first cup in 2012, how many new players have they acquired/developed who are now 25 and under (Their own 2012 picks would be 25 this year).

Doesn't help them that Vilardi has a bad back and missed basically all of last season. No idea where he is at now.

But, they did win 2 cups. So, if they have to deal with a few years of rebuilding, that's life. I'm sure we'd take it too.
