AV can be such a male appendage. If Kassian had scored on his dangle Vigneault would be heaping praise. If I was a young player I wouldn't appreciate being criticized for trying to score. It didn't work, but so be it. Kassian had an effective game. Praise the positives instead of describing the fourth goal as essentially meaningless.

Way to take a quote out of context. AV also gave some praise to him for playing a good game tonight. The goal was with seconds left on the clock, he is just giving some respect to the Oilers since it was already 3-0 when that goal was scored. At that point it was a nothing goal. Had nothing to do with that play he had earlier.

This game really makes me think about Gilman's infamous 'all in' comment. When he went on air I think he was sure that he was going to add one of Clowe or Torres which in my opinion, the addition of either would've made this team a top contender.

Yea I agree, its to bad it turned out that way, I wonder since canucks were in san jose if they were allowed to have a talk with him and could have convinced him to come. Maybe san jose did not really want him going to a conference rival either. Then again kypreos said he wanted a long term deal which canucks and flyers were not prepared to give him.

He will have to keep up his performance he did for the rangers the other night to make me feel like we missed out though. If booth is back in playoff's i am not sure if we would need clowe though. Clowe is more of a passer, and better at getting pucks on the for check but he is also quite a bit slower.

Make my day.
would like too see Kesler get more of the typical 3rd line duties (playing against top lines) in the playoffs and let Roy's line get the easier matchups.

People seem to think a checking line is a demotion while forgetting about guys like Toews and Datsyuk are 1st liners that get that duty at times. Elite is elite, not matter what you call it.

I am thinking this to actually, who do you put with him though?

A great two way line would be higgins kesler hansen. But roy looks to have chemistry with them.

Then perhaps do a line of raymond roy booth/kassian?

I really dont know what the best approach is.

If kassian could play with the twins it would sure be nice to have burrows somewhere else as well. Then you could do higgins kesler burrows, roy raymond hansen.

Maybe I read to much into it, but its a habit of AV's I don't care for. Praise publicly, criticize privately. As far as respect to the other team goes, he loads up after a loss, so I think he could afford to skip it after a win where Edmonton did virtually nothing.

I don't think it's a demotion at all, we all know how good Kesler is at playing a shutdown game and I would feel more comfortable with a bigger and more physical player like Kesler going against the top lines. Realistically though I think the Roy and Kesler lines will be getting equal time with similar duties.

Yea I like this to. Kassian is going to be so important for us. I really do think we were disappointed we missed clowe and torres, we need his size and grit in this lineup.

We have some good skill, but he is the x factor in all of this, someone of his size will be needed in our top 9.

With Schroeder:

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Higgins Roy Kesler
Raymond Schroeder Hansen
Weise Lappiere Kassian

Without Schroeder:

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Higgins Kesler Kassian
Raymond Roy Hansen
Sestito Lappiere Weise

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Garrison
Ballard - Tanev

Rather have Garrison play with Edler so that he can be the more defensive-minded of the two and cover for Edler so that he can take more risks offensively. Same with Bieksa and Hamhuis. Tanev can cover for Ballard. More balance I think.

EDIT: not including Booth on purpose. May not make it back until early May or mid-May.

Well if Roy is signed 5.5 - 6M and Ballard/Booth are gone we can afford it for sure.

Booth and Ballard and Luongo would all have to go. Also probably Raymond (50-50) if he wants $3m+.

I would not be buying a house if I was Schroeder either given the only centre role left is the 4C and with a smallish Roy about on a line above him AV/Gillis will want a big physical centre or a defensive specialist centre.

Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m)
__________ / Derek Roy ($5.000m) / Zack Kassian ($0.870m)
__________ / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / __________
__________

Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Jason Garrison ($4.600m)
Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m)
__________ / Chris Tanev ($2.000m)
__________ / __________

Cory Schneider ($4.000m)
Eddie Lack ($0.750m)

Cap space: $6,430,000 to get 4 forwards, and 2 Dmen. Less if Roy wants more than $5m.

I really like this if Kassian continues his play, but I fear that he may fizzle out like he did at the beginning of the year.

Wiese lapierre Kassian

Or

This is where I think Clowe would've been huge.

Higgins-Roy-Kassian
Clowe-Kesler-Hansen

Can Raymond play RW? I'm not sure if it's been done or how effective it was.

Raymond-Roy-Kassian
Higgins-Kesler-Hansen

I'm a little skeptical about Kassian and his inconsistency but if we are going anywhere in the playoffs then people like him will need to step up.

Was so pumped to play my first game as a Canuck tonight! Thank you to all Canucks fans for the awesome support #lovingthiscity

I'm sure he's getting flooded with tweets begging him to re-sign in the off-season.. and not just from me...

Are you factoring in the raises to Higgins, Burrows, and Edler? What about the lowered cap?

I played around with cap geek and Roy at 5.5 would be almost impossible to fit under the cap.

 How are they spinning that little tale? I'd look myself, but my eyes would probably start to bleed.

Don't waste your time. It was valuable seconds out of my life I'll never get back.

Does it get more perfect than that?

Several huge hits, noteably Lapierre on Smid (who I loathe utterly)

The Sedins worked their magic and made the Oilers defence look like Tykes.

Schneider pitched a perfect game.

Roy looked awesome.

Jason Garrison with a big multi-point night.

And Jumpin' Zack Kass breaks his slump.

Just beautiful...

Hell yes. :handclap:

I loved the hootering and hollering from his Canuck teammates when Roy was talking to the media. Great bunch of guys here.

And was AV's comment about Kassian really necessary? "It was good to see Zack get a good goal at the end, though the goal had no importance on the game"
Last part wasn't needed. Maybe it looks worse than it is and didn't mean it that way but could have worded it a bit better.

This is very worrying to me. It says (to me, anyway) that AV's zeroing in on Kassian for some of his moronic doghouse treatment a la Ballard, which would be a complete waste of another potentially valuable asset. The Canucks were taking it to the Oilers in the last minute rather than sitting back playing dump and don't chase...OH NO!!! I loved it. The last few minutes of the game I was yelling "There! THAT'S what we should be doing every ****ing 3rd period when ahead!! SEE THAT AV?! YEAHH!!!!" And he's actually finding some way to denigrate it to the press? A player on your team scored, you idiot! This is bad?

Jason Garrison - Ankle Hunter. He should keep doing that instead of attempting shots on net.

Yeah, he likes his ankle shots. Where was he in 2011? :sarcasm:

barker made the oilers look tough and gritty

Though Barker was on waivers...damn. He's still here then. Piss me off...

----------------------------------------------

Thoughts:

--Roy. My man. Awesome game. Actually engineered a goal...OFF THE RUSH! A Canuck scored on a situation that didn't require endless dicking around on the boards cycling first! *shocked gasp* My GOD...but seriously, good game. Like this guy. Amazing the difference having an NHL centre on your 2nd line can make.

--Higgins: monster game. Played like he was snorting Red Bull and meth on the bench between shifts.

--Refs: blind, deaf and dumb as usual. It almost makes me wonder if they're bred in some weird Supervillain-ish cloning lab somewhere that combines the outward appearance of humans with the cognitive functions of cocker spaniels.

--Defense: Actually played defense. *another shocked gasp*

--Schneids: perfect tonight.

Still not sold on any long-term hope for this squad going deep into the playoffs or anything, but a win's a win. Especially when you win because of actually playing well, not plodding along eking out 1-0 wins against teams that can't see playoff seeding with a telescope.

:yo:

Oilers suck.

I think bleach clean did it the other day with raises.

Cant remember where though.

4th line to me will have to be our entry level players like archibald next year to make it work though.

Was the last rush for the 4th goal necessary?
It is nice to see Kassian get a goal...
But there is less than 20 seconds left in a 3-0 game...
