Juolevi, for all his stagnation, will end up in the NHL by hook or by crook, even if they force it. The enthusiasm for Höglander inmediately after the draft is reminding me very much of the Lind/Gadjovich euphoria (you can’t say a player is a draft steal yet, by definition, when anyone else at the time had the identical information we have now!)

I think even putting Woo ahead of Juolevi is a bit of a stretch, to be honest.

Pretty much exactly where I am at.

I also wonder about guys like Hoglander who have man bodies at 18 as well. How much upward trajectory is left in a guy who basically looks like a cross fit athlete at 18? How much stronger will he get?

Looks like a nice pick and has some upside, but "steal" along with "fleece" is one of the worst descriptors used on this forum.

Went with Madden. Trying to steel myself against succumbing to shiny new toy syndrome, but will probably vote for Hoglander next.

Can't bring myself to vote for OJ while there are still prospects who have shown some positive post-draft development. The reality is that OJ should be the slam dunk choice by this point, but he needs to have at least one encouraging season in the AHL to convince me he isn't a bust of a pick.

Madden,IMO.Put up very good numbers as a freshman playing against older competition while still physically immature.I just see a higher ceiling for this player when he gets to his peak while Hoglander is likely already there.

I like Hogs, but I'm not ready to vote for him. Madden had a very strong D+1 which, like Woo, solidifies his value over a fresh second-round pick.

I would've ranked Hoglander 3rd overall in our prospect pool though. I don't think he's remotely comparable to Lind or Gads. I think he is a far superior prospect, IMO a top-20 1st rounder.

Lind or Gads I was never really that excited for. I was happy in a "yah they're solid picks at those slots" kinda way. With Hoglander, I think he went way lower than he should have.

Woo I never rated highly before, but after this season I probably need to update my priors a bit on that one.

My problem with Juolevi is his lack of compete level. If he can't correct that he'll never be a Top 4 NHL D-Man. I've lowered my expectations of him to a bottom pairing PP specialist at best.

Madden is a good prospect but I feel he's almost getting over-rated a bit and I'd definitely have Hoglander ahead of him.

Are we rating our best prospects, or our prospects most likely to play a couple NHL games?

You're right that Juolevi will end up getting at least a few games in the NHL, but that doesn't mean he'll magically become a good top-4 D. Hoglander has a much higher chance of completely busting out and never even playing a single NHL game, but also a higher chance of becoming an impact player for this franchise IMO.

I'd take Hoglander or Madden over Juolevi at this point.

I'm expecting Madden to bust. Playing a Toews style game is not going to work with that small frame.

Hoglander is a little bulldog. I'm certain that he will be in the NHL. Only question is, on what line.

Though I didn't vote for him (I still firmly believe in OJ), I'm surprised to see that DiPietro isn't getting any love at this spot, or at seemingly any spot before #8. Difficult first NHL game aside, he had an excellent season with Windsor, a great playoffs with Ottawa, and an outstanding WJHC. I feel like he is a sure thing to be at least a reliable 1A, and he is trending positively towards elite prospect status.

I get that goalies are a little harder to rank, and that we already have Demko - but I have a hard time ranking the likes of Hog or Madden ahead of him.

I'm not even sure he's a sure thing to be a reliable 1A in the AHL. Dude is tiny for his position in today's NHL.

Have said this a few times, but he's a guy where I would have tried to capitalize on his junior notoriety and sold high on him if there was a deal available.

He looks tiny just playing against junior players. At the WJC I couldn't believe how small he was. Rooting for him, but just not sure I see a future for him at that height. When he goes into the butterfly, it looks like the entire half of the upper net is available - NHL'ers can murder a goalie with that much space.

I appreciate that he looks small when in net right now, at least in the limited viewings I had of him... but 6'0 220 is hardly small. Surely you can correct the squat/sunken stance he takes, and allow for his athleticism to do the rest?

What Madden did in his first year in the NCAA as basically an 18-year old is beyond impressive. Of course Hoglander was playing the SHL pro league as a 17-year old.

It's a tossup. But I'm going with Madden because he's a center.

His WJC was very impressive.

His NCAA performance as a 19 y/o older freshman was pretty good and definitely upped his stock but not nearly as good as it gets made out to be.
