You can look at numbers, but you can also watch how the goals develop. I believe in his last five games, Mrazek has a shutout and a 1 goal game (albeit on shots but whatever). I’m not sure that qualifies as a trend.

Here’s the only trend that matters:

Since Jan 1: Mrazek 2–5-1 Reimer 5-0-1

It doesn’t make any difference how the goals develop. The team is either playing better in front of Reimer or he’s outplaying Mrazek and that’s been the case for a month.

Edit: Let me be clear, I’m not saying fire Mrazek into the sun, but if we’re doing 1A and 1B right now Reimer has to be 1A and should be used as such until he or the team in front of him gives them a reason not to.

A trend is not 2 games, or even 5. It's longer than that. He was in the mid .910s a month or two ago, he's about to be into sub .900 Darling territory unless he starts playing better.

Just no consistency, even with the team in front of him not playing optimally.

I completely agree! Until Reimer starts shitting the bed, which will most likely happen at some point.

The following posts are about Reimer from the Philly game, exactly one month ago:

Reimer gave me ptsd flashbacks of Darling. Every save was a battle... I'm all for shooting him into the moon. Let's see one of our CLT tenders for a few games. They can't be any worse than our current duo.

Holly overreaction, Batman!

But really, Reimer was a totally sieve that game. Even if he is playing better now I'm still for calling up Ned or Forsberg to see if they can replace one of Reimer or Darling, err I mean Mrazek. They really can't do worse.

I too was on Reimer's case about that game. He looked awful. But one extenuating circumstance that came out later was he was just getting over some flu like symptoms, so maybe medications and symptoms were affecting his play.

This talk about goalies has me trying to figure out if there is anything to be learned from Merzlikins.

In Oct. and Nov. he started 7 games without a win. His GAA was around 3.40 and sv% was .895. In 2020 he is 10-2, with 1.65 GAA and .949.

Is the lesson about giving rookie goalies a serious chance or not giving up on goalies who are near the bottom of the league?

If there's anything that I've learned from Columbus, it's that Kekalainen and Tortorella have been a patient breed since they both arrived on the scene there. The only exception to that rule was when they knew that Panarin and Bob were going to flee to major markets, which is why they went for it that one time with mixed results. Other than that, they've been the definition of a draft-and-develop team.

I can't support Forsberg, I've watched him give away 3 games this season. He's not been great, though generally he's also not terrible, but they were such bush league loser moments that he's shaken my faith in him badly (much like Darling). I'm still not sold on Ned being an NHLer long-term, but I would like to at least give him a shot and see how he handles things, Forsberg is a career minor-leaguer.

Isn't the more obvious answers that goalies are voodoo?

So what you're saying is fire Mrazek into the sun! Got it.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. That one game is really the only outlier, he's been pretty consistent otherwise.

There's a pretty consistent trait that comes out in Mrazek's losses. He just flat out gets too excited and over plays and over commits. Sure all goalies let in the occasional muffin, but for my money, there are more yawning cages when Petr plays than most....and it is almost aways from over-playing. When he's on, he tends to play more within himself.

That night was literally the only time I have ever returned from PNC arena in a bad mood after they won.

Yeah. I've got about 2 dozen single malts of various age and make. My father turned us on to single malts some 50 years ago (yeah I'm a damn proud ancient OK boomer!). Back then the ABC stores only had Glenfiddich. He would go scotch shopping when traveling on business.

What do you recommend? Laphroaig 10 and Macallan 12 are my normal go-tos. Also like Balvenie and Lagavulin.
