Can we please trade Gardiner now?

I was done with him after Game 7 last year and this season has done nothing but reinforce that sentiment. Plays soft, makes insanely bad plays at the worst possible times under the slightest amount of pressure, routinely turns the puck over and/or ices it with his lame stretch passes and now he can't even hit the net anymore with his shot.

He provides absolutely nothing at this point.

You've summed it up. He's no longer a threat offensively and he's below average and soft defensively. I would hate to see a repeat of last playoffs. Time to trade him and get the best return possible. I could see a team pay a late first round pick for him. Then use that first round pick and a prospect to get a young cost controlled RHD dman. Get it done!

He hung in there and took the hit, tried passing behind the net and it hit the tip of Wilson’s skateblade. These plays happen, otherwise there’d never be any goals.

As for those saying he can’t hit the net, you should note he generally shoots for the tip and does a pretty good job of finding guys that way.

His O stats are fine.

I really think one of those bubble team in the West will over pay for Jake. ESP teams that are close to the cap since he is a pure rental.

i got drilled for even suggesting this on a thread in the summer. he needed to be gone last summer.

Although I’m a Gardiner fan, I did like the asset management move of trading him in the summer. The problem was their D depth was (is) awful. So a top 4 D, even a top 2 needed to comeback and preferably a righty. Even with Muzzin in the fold, with Gardiner gone we’d still be hoping for 2 more D right now.

This team really overachieved the first year with Matthews and the rebuild got rushed abit. It’s landed us Tavares but I think it’s cost us our long term depth and cap structure.

Dubas could sell him to the Oilers by telling them they'll make the playoffs with him as their PP specialist...Gardiner for Larsson...get it done, Dubas...:sarcasm:

Just blame Jake, most people don’t know the difference
only a matter of time ,that second goal was as weak as I've seen as far as a forward just b....tch slapping a d man
bring on the playoffs
Jake is Jake second goal deserves going

I remember arguing like 6 years ago on here with a bunch of posters about Gardiner.

They were adamant that they wouldn't trade Gardiner straight up for Bergeron.
I've been here for over six years and have been very active in every Gardiner thread. I don't remember anything like that, and I'm pretty sure I would have because I would have ripped it to shreds myself.

Gardiner got blown up by the best hitter in the game coming at full speed. It has happened to a lot of d-men over the years, and not because they are soft. He didn't bail to avoid that hit. He tried to make a play with the puck despite what that meant.

The biggest issue with that sequence was that Muzzin had no support for going to help out, and that Muzzin went anyway. Gardiner losing the puck meant that they got the puck behind the net, the two mentioned issues caused a clear passing lane to an unmarked player alone in front of the net. Which seems worse to you?

Anderson should made the save on that play and our forwards didn’t come low and help out. I credit Jake for trying to absorb that hit, Wilson is a tank. Maybe if we could score a few goals in the first two periods of a game the D would be under less pressure.

Count me as somebody who doesn't get the Gardiner hate. I'd be more than happy to sign this guy if he ever hits UFA.

What's happening with him now really reminds me of the Larry Murphy situation. The fans turned on him (I felt unfairly) and he wound up being run out of town. He had productive years in Detroit afterwards. It just seems like Gardiner is the whipping boy after a bad playoff run and he can't shake it. Personally I think he's a pretty solid player.

Trade Gardiner. I have been saying this for the past couple of months. I agree trading him to a team like Dallas would be ideal. They could use him and we can get some pieces from them for now and in the future. If anything take those pieces and flip them for holes to fill this year along with other cap concerns.

This trade deadline should be as much of bettering your team, as it is to put you in a better position next season with the cap and lineup.

Teams always pay a premium at the TDL or draft. Since Gardiner is not our property after this season we should be using the TDL to get rid of him and use the assets to better the team without impacting our lineup to much.

As much as some will say trading him now will impact the team and lineup. I say it does but only for the better.

Addition by subtraction at this point. Even if the return isn’t huge it’s better to get something than nothing for Gardiner. The ideal time to trade him was last summer.

It won’t happen though, seems liked in the room and Babcock rates him for whatever reason.

Its pretty hilarious to see how people are interpreting that play. I'll be the first to admit that Gardiner's seemed off his normal steady game this season, but he did nothing wrong on that play. Took the hit to make the play, didn't have the proper support.

If you read 90% of the dumb posts in this thread, you'd think Gardiner passed it himself into the slot.
