Can PIT steal the 'Team of the Decade' title from Chicago with a 3rd Cup?

I think the team of the decade discussion is a good one. People just need to know 2009 is not part of this decade.

I've seen a couple people. Even one of the mid tier analysts say that the pens have 2 cups since the new decade. Like uhhh?

Team of the decade? No, cause one of their cups happened outside the decade. And, there was kind of a 6 year gap where they really didn't do anything of note, most of which occurred in the 2010s.

Best team of the cap era (or at least, most successful)? Yeah, I think they take that crown with a repeat.

This

Yeah, 2009 is not part of this decade. They would tie LA with a Cup this year. Of course after this year, there are still two more Cups up for grabs.

For once I agree with a flyers fan, probably a first.

Chicago would still be the team of the decade its 3 cups to 2 simple as that, I don't know why any pens fan is even arguing that, I sure wouldn't.

Let Chicago keep that title, for now at least. Being the best team in the salary cap era is a more impressive feat imo and they would take that title if they can pull off the back to backs considering they already have the edge in SC final appearances, series wins and total number of PO games won.

who cares. I'm concerned with winning our 5th Cup. That said, if they do, I think it would put Crosby certainly in the Top 10 of all time. Perhaps as high as #6.

This is ridiculous and makes no sense. Winning a cup doesn't change how good someone is. So,now were going to toewserize Crosby? He most certainly isn't top 10 and sure as hell isn't the 6th best player ever.

I'd call it even at that point. We can quibble that 2008-2009 was the previous decade, but it was still the Malkin/Crosby-Toews/Kane eras, respectively.

So, yes, I'd like that 3rd Cup to call it even. :naughty:

Chicago would still be the team of the decade (2010s), but Pittsburgh would be the most succesful team in cap era.

2010 is the last year of the first decade of this century. There was no year zero.

Check this out: Decade means 10 years, that would be 2000-2010. Any number that ends in zero, besides zero, isnt zero. Hope that makes sense.

You're right in theory but what is globally accepted is typically what gets the nod.

You're wrong. This decade started on January 1st 2010.

How much you want to wager on it?

Im agreeing with him, just besides the point that public stance on it says otherwise. Trust me I get that the 2000's didn't end until December 31, 2010. But its just not followed, well I cant say by everybody, but by most. Hence when it was said we hit a new millennium during 2000 and Y2k.

It's all semantics.

Pens fans will say yes.
Hawks fans will say no.
People who hate the pens will say no.
People who hate the hawks will say no.

In my opinion, they are at the very least, tied. Depends how one weighs things.

No.

But it would take a bullet out of the "TOEWS IS BETTER" gun, and make the NHL look stupid for leaving Malkin out of the "Top 100" thing.

Count it out. 2000 to 2010 is 11 years.

The first decade of the new century was 2000 to 2009.

The now decade is 2010 to 2019.

The next decade is 2020 to 2029. I'll probably be dead in that decade.

If they win the Cup again, they'll have as many Cups this decade as the Blackhawks.

Plus a repeat, which hasn't been done in 20 years.

CHI won 3 Cups in 6 years, true- but 3 Cups in basically the same time span (2009-present) with a repeat as well as consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances (which the Hawks have not done yet) can't be overlooked.

And given the Penguins situation seems less dicey than that of Chicago (ie the cap), who's to say they can't keep this up?

I don't think this is a last gasp/window's closing situation. They may keep this up- heck, they MIGHT win 4 Cups in a decade in a similar timespan as the Red Wings did.

It depends if your looking at decades... 2000-2009, 2010-2019 or a ten year span

2008-2017 because IF the pens win the second option definetly favors them. It would be 3 cups a piece, prns would have 1 extra conference champ. But it really is nitpicking theyre both great

I think they need to win 4 I don't think you can claim to be team of the decade when anotyher team has as many cups as you

Yes, semantics aside, the extra Finals appearance and defending their Cup would elevate the Penguins above Chicago for the best team since they both became playoff regulars again (2008-now).

All of the key players for the Pens and Hawks started within a few seasons of each other and started to see team success within one season of each other. That is the timeframe which should be considered. So we can say 2008 onwards.

The Hawks have three Cups, two WCF appearances, and 76 wins.

The Pens have two Cups, two SCF appearances, an ECF appearance, and 86 wins.

Another Cup by the Pens puts them inarguably ahead of the Hawks.

This thread must be killing ToewsEra.

I'd say it absolutely would put them ahead and it can't even really be up for discussion.

They'd have an extra Finals appearance, less seasons missing the playoffs, and just all around better team.
